A random Uldaman run, waaaaaay before Burning Crusade (probably less than a few months after WoW classic released), Ardent Custodian dropped randomly. We decided to have one person sell it, and split the gold. It was a PUG full of noobs, so of course we overreacted, and started imagining getting hundreds of gold from it (back when 100g made you rich). After having the person who was selling it lose roughly 25g from continuous Auction House deposits, it finally sold for 50g. 10g to each of us.
My most epic loot drop was actually a drop I missed, sadly. I was part of a guild on Cenarius named "Legacy Reborn" for a long time - Close to two years. I was also one of three raiding Moonkin pre-BC, and the best geared of them all. We farmed BWL for more than a year, and never saw the Bracers of Arcane Accuracy drop from Broodlord, and I never really upgraded out of my T1 bracers (Some of the only other spelldamage bracers available to use). I farmed rep and tried for the Ossirian bindings drop for a long time. Never saw them. After nearly two years I left the guild, upset with progression. It would figure that from the week I left on, every single week for six weeks they dropped, and every mage, two Priests, and a Druid got them. I never saw them still. It was an epic loot drop failure more than anything, but still, epic.
Heh.Back in the Burning Crusade, I was helping a friend level in Stranglethorn. My 70 paladin was plowing through the pirates south from BB, my friend was looting almost as fast as I was killing - good times. Not even 10 minutes after we started, this sweetie. I completely ignored it, leaving my friend enjoy her new pet. Now, at the time this happened, I had no idea this is one of the rarest pets in the game, and one of the most beautiful ones as well. I had mistaken it for its Deadmines version... Poor me.But that was definitely pretty epic for me. Even though I didn't even consider taking it.
My PHAT epic loot has to be lightforge spaulders, way back in the day. It was that point where you crossed the line into end-game when there was only one end-game. No separation of pve and pvp, and everyone understood what those banana spaulders meant... "It's Hammer Time!"
I'd have to say my most epic drop would have to be way back in Pre-BC running Zul'Gurub and downing Hakkar for the first time and Zin'Rokh, Destroyer of Worlds dropping and myself winning the roll for it on my hunter. Had to be my most favourite epic item I've ever obtained, just because the look has remained unique and hasn't been remade into another weapon. Definitely my favourite item.
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=37854I just got it today. Running Heroic HoL for 2 weeks for it. And the pug group is just awful.
Titansteel Shanker after several days of farming dagger and trying to craft it, to go mutilate PVE my guild says no u need to be combat. Dagger already enchanted with mongoose and equiped got replaced for a rep blue sword, its still in my bags cuz it was my 1st epic at 80.
My most epic drop was when I was level 59 and almost 60. I'm talking 59 to 60 where sixty was the pinnacle, the highest level, the place to be. I was doing some quests with my brother's girlfriend at the time in Silithus when we kill a bee and out drops http://www.wowhead.com/?item=1443 I quickly poop my pants and hit need because I was on my priest at the time and felt the need to....need it. She objected and I said, "You snooze you lose, you could have needed it too." Anyway, I later sold it on the auction house and made a bundle of money, but the following kill yielded a http://www.wowhead.com/?item=2099. After swiftly pooping my pants again, I noticed she clicked need and I too did the same. After beating her by a few points, she got angry and left the group. Maybe a bad Idea I ninja-ed two BoE epics from my brother's girlfriend, because they broke up later that evening. I spurred what was bound to happen, but Two Epix one Break up is pretty epic nonetheless!
The most epic loot drop I've ever witnessed had to be the felstriker (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12590), formerly known as death striker I believe, from UBRS back in the day. Our rogue lost the roll to a paladin who then proceeded to be a jerk and pulled the end boss and bubble hearthed.
