Bloodcurse Isle is south and a little east of Wyrmscar Island. Pretty straight forward. Just fight your way to the top.

When you get to the top of the hill, after clearing all the naga's, you'll attack the statue. You will get two spawns, a Bloodcurse Naga (caster) and the named, Atoph the Bloodcursed. So, be prepared for two spawns.

Interesting fact: You can actually attack the statue over and over, forcing him to spawn each time. I had 5 Atoph corpses before I got bored.

If you refresh the buff from Captain Edward Hanes before you end the *previous* quest the extra swim speed should help you get to Bloodcurse Isle and back a bit faster.
Once you are on *this* quest he will no longer buff you.

Did this as a level 16 Paladin. Before I handed in the pre-requisite, I got the buff again from the Captain. I swam over there, fought my way up, cleared the Nagas and burned the wheel. Made sure there was no other mobs and took out the leader. I had enough time to jump off from the island, land in the water and swim back. There was no way I was going to fight my way back down.

As a lvl 20 draenei shaman I was able to go up the ramp in bout 4 minutes, killing all mobs, using a very mana intensive technique of bolting and earth shocking casts. Even without rebuffing the water breathing thingie from the Cap'n, I had bout 9 minutes left of it when I finished the quest.

PS: Ghost Wolf speed stacks with the buff speed in the water.

This quest teaches an important lesson for real life - if you come across a statue five times your height, punch it a few seconds and it will catch fire!

If you dont have an addon with coords, the entrance to the island is on it's northern part, right above first letter "o" in "Bloodcurse isle"

Having done all the prequels to this quest and cleared the entire path up the island as a level 14, I was mildly suprised to be fighting a level 19. I managed to defeat him, but compared to the rest of the naga on the island, he is no pushover.

Maybe useful to somebody to know that falling off the north side of the shrine hill will get you the Going Down? achievement if you survive.

This quest seems a little bugged.
After killing Atoph the quest marker stayed on his isle and when mousing over him it said 0/1.
The questlog oddly enough stated 1/1 though, so I returned and was actually able to complete the quest. The question mark in the returning dialog was grayed out however, unlike its regular golden color it should be!

You must start with a quest called "A Small Start" down in Azuremyst Isle to get this to open up for you.

If you're like me and want this shield but you don't want to run every single starter quest for the zone, simple go do "A Small Start." (A Small Start). It can be found at Odesyus' Landing given by Admiral Odesyus. After you do this quest there will be a quest chain. You can follow it but it's not necessary to starting the next stage for the shield. Once you do "A Small Start" you can head to Blood Watch on Bloodmist Isle. Talk to "Messenger Hermesius" (Messenger Hermesius). He will give you the quest "Urgent Delivery" (Urgent Delivery). Head right to the mail box at Blood Watch and you will get a letter that once you put it in your bag gives you a quest. Accept the quest "The Bloodcurse Legacy" (The Bloodcurse Legacy) and you will now be able to talk to "Captain Edward Hanes" (Captain Edward Hanes) follow his quests and enjoy your shield :)

I didn't realize that when you attack the statue, he spawns so I kept attacking it which spawning around 9 of him. Currently abandoning the quest and trying again to see if I can do it correctly this time😧

At 8.0.1 you no longer need to complete the pre quest at Azuremyst Isle. The Urgent Delivery q appeared to me in Blood Watch. :)

In patch 8.3 you need to take The Bloodcurse Legacy in Azuremyst Isle /way 47 70, (speak to Admiral Odesyus).
Or in your mailbox A Letter from the Admiral

Captain Edward Hanes on Wyrmscar Island wants you to destroy the Statue of Queen Azshara and kill Atoph the Bloodcursed.

Description

To the south you will find Bloodcurse Isle. Atop the island you will find a shrine dedicated to the beloved queen of the naga, Azshara. Destroy the statue - burn it in effigy! This will surely draw the ire of Atoph, the Bloodcursed leader.

Slay Atoph and return to me!
