Contrary to what the quest says, you don't need to bring anyone with you to complete this. As long as you can pull around 15k for a short period to get the mob below 50% hp to trap it, you should be fine.

You can also continue to capture elite beasts with the quest item. You cannot any longer get multiple items from each beast but you can group up with other people who are farming and benefit from each other's traps as long as you are close to each other.

Mobs can only be found in the western, level 100 part of Nagrand. Nearest flight paths are Joz's Rylaks and Rilzit's Holdfast.

I found with my 621 Marks that I couldn't keep my pet alive and simultaneously whack the Direfang Alpha with the lower amount of damage that would prevent it dropping aggro from the pet and coming for me, even with constant healing. This aggro dropping problem, while not constant, has been a big problem but it's comforting to know that the GMs are "looking into it."

On the other hand, the meaner-looking Ironhide Bull did practically no damage to my pet and was pretty easy, even the first time. Make sure you clear those annoying Talbuks from the area near the Bull.

WARNING! Trap one (1) of the bulls and go turn it in to get credit for the quest. I, having done this many times before, decided to get a whole STACK of cages before returning to garrison. BIG MISTAKE! The damned NPC took ALL MY CAGES, all 11 of them, to accomplish the quest! So just do one, complete the quest, and then go back for more (for your bloods or whatever).

Be warned, when you accept this quest the NPC will REMOVE your old trap (Deadly Iron Trap) from your bags and give you the new (Improved Iron Trap) for catching elites.

This suck if you were using more then one trap to catch beasts (Iron Trap and Deadly Iron Trap do not share a cool down so you can go hunting with two traps to speed things up). I suggest leaving any traps you might have in the bank for the duration of this quest just to be on the safe side. That way you just might be able to have 3 different traps on you for caging beasts since none of them share a cool down. Goes a long way to help out any body who needs to stock pile meat, leather or fur. Anyways, i hope this helps, don't want anyone else out there to be as sad as I was when I discovered they took my deadly trap :( Happy Hunting folks!

Playing catch up in patch 8.1 and the Soft Foam Sword doesn't work. I had to take off half my gear and both weapons, then open hand slapped the beast, which knocked the hit points low enough.

Just did this after failing trying it without any armor (didn't try with res sickness which might work). Anyway, used the toy Whole-Body Shrinka', which lowers your damage enough that I could go in fully armored and auto-attack to get the mob down and use the trap.

Tested on a few others before the toy ran out (3 minutes), and light spells were okay- anything strong would still one-shot. You take no damage, it just lowers your output.

If taking off all your gear and weapons and put on Soft Foam Sword does not work.
Use a low level weapon and remove all your gear and weapons, this will do the job. I used Blizzard Account "Mantid Sky Reaver" (Level 39). It took me 5 minutes or even less as a mage level 61.

Good news, commander! With the materials we've gathered here in Draenor, we've been able to construct a trap strong enough to immobilize even the mightiest beast!

Why don't you head on out to Nagrand and give it a try? Word has it that the western plains are home to some of the most magnificent beasts this side of Crystal Lake.

I'm going to warn you, though, these beasts are tough. You may want to bring some friends along.
