This quest is a bit tricky and you should make sure you are NOT in a group when you attempt it. Two people in the same group can't do it at the same time. Also, it seems that if a person groups with you while you have it and they have already done it, there is currently some bug that makes it so you can't do it. I was grouped and had to abandon the quest and come back later when I was no longer grouped to complete it. They really need to work out the kinks on this one because sometimes your chair gets destroyed before the game shows you in the seat and allows you to fight.
Spell number 1 you have to aim at the robots on the ground but the beam does not really seem to go where you point it. Spell number 2 you have to point skyward to shoot the flying enemies that carry large orbs that destroy the chair. It can take multiple attempts to complete this, but just keep trying until you get all of them. The game is currently inconsistent about whether or not you actually hit the things at which you shoot. I've had my attacks just fly right through them.

In order to do this quest you have to sit in the chair. You get two abilities:
1 - to shoot at ground targets, Apex Destroyers
2 - to shoot at air targets, Adherent Sol-Shaper

What makes this quest tricky is that...
1 - Some of the targets shoot back and it can be hard to spot them because they can be in a wide arc around you, above or below. When you receive too many hits, you get ejected from the chair.
2 - Whether you hit a target or not seems to be somewhat random. A lot of the time a sure hit seems to go right through the flying targets.

When I did the quest, the kill count did not reset when I got ejected from the chair, which makes the quest just annoying rather than difficult.

Quest seems to be bugged, camera is stuck inside the turret and cant aim the abilities because of that.

For me the quest was bugged and the camera was stuck and I couldn't do anything, while I do not know how to fix it you can group up and their kills will give you credit

Apparently having the time travellers buff from Zidormi in the Blasted Lands at 48,72 is causing the bug so going back and talking to them to get rid of it will fix it, I know i had the buff at the time but have already completed the quest so cannot confirm

Quest is bugged for an extremely limited number of people as described above. Out of 12 people I know did it, I was the only one that my camera was stuck inside the turret. Sadly, I still don't have it done.

Not only does the camera get stuck inside the turret for some people, but firing actually will destroy your own turret.

If you're stuck inside the turret, and someone else is doing the quest at the same time, their fire can actually kill you. Not your turret - you.

I've put in a bug report about this but I suspect there are several interconnected bugs here. I don't expect this to be an easy fix.

Took me a couple of attempts. Don't think it is bugged although aiming was quite hard.

Ability 1 - is good for the ground mobs
Ability 2 - is good for the flying mobs

I think but not 100% sure each time you kill a mob you get back some of your health. I found killing a few of the ground mobs in between killing the flying mobs helped with keeping my health up. Hope this helps :)

This Quest seems to be Bugged as i tried to get inside the seat .. and try to Aim for Targets.
But my camera is stucked inside the machine Not allowing me to see anything.

The quest requires:
1 - to shoot at ground targets, Apex Destroyers
2 - to shoot at air targets, Adherent Sol-Shaper

The second part is doable because when you aim up into the sky you can actually see the flying targets and by using the second ability in the machine they can be nuked down.

I've tried:

1- Getting into Group.
2- Re-logging.
3- Re-loading Ad-dons.
4- Abandoning the Quest and re-taking it again.
5- Adjusting me Graphics and screen settings to various options in system and interface.

Nothing worked.

I was trying to shoot the flying mobs with the first ability, as I had no second ability.... except I did, and it had no icon.

Try pressing 2 even if it has no icon.

Use the Insert (up) and Delete (down) to aim weapon. Can be soloed on lvl 99. No need for group. the meeting stone is for the dungeon on top of the tower.

Incredibly annoying quest.

You need to aim with the right mouse button pressed at all times. Ability 1 for ground targets, 2 for air targets.

Now... if it weren't for the objectives not resetting after you get ejected (and you WILL be ejected, trust me) this could easily be the most difficult "normal" quest in the game.

You are fired upon from ALL angles and every hit takes about 20% of your health. It's just ridiculous. Blizzard needs to patch this up so we could just move on... :-P

I had the UI bugged too, POV got stuck inside the crystal. I disabled addons, reloaded ui, deleted cache, nothing worked. The only working way to complete the quest for me was to group someone who had the quest working and have him do the kills for me.

I couldn't figure out how to aim the turret for a while so for those like me hold down the right mouse button and then move. It's annoying because I had to keep the button held down for the quest.

My health got to 0 quite a few times but the good news is that the count of what you have killed does not reset. So I just had to keep doing the quest 5 or 6 times until I had killed enough. Really annoying quest!

who is with the camera bug, I went to Blasted Lands and removed the buff "return to the past" ( i dont remember the name of it) and the quest worked, this may solve your problem.
The NPC is Zidormi in 48,72 in Blasted lands.

For those whose quest is not bugged: in order to move the beam up and down, hold down both mouse buttons the entire time. Use the abilities by hitting 1 and 2 on your keyboard. (Note: for me, I was able to move the beam up and down by holding down only the right mouse button - but for other people it seems that it's necessary to hold down both mouse buttons).

For those for whom the quest is bugged: as suggested by tassiaporto here, speaking with Zidormi in the Blasted Lands to remove the time traveling buff has helped a lot of people fix the bug.

The mobs you kill are cumulative over successive attempts, so don't freak out if your crystal gets destroyed. As a point of interest to aim on a trackpad I had to put fingers down on my left hand and hold them there and then use my index finger on my right hand to aim picking it up to press 1 or 2 to attack.

Quest was bugged for me too. But reading through the comments, I decided to try holding both the left and right mouse buttons and try aiming that way. That worked for me.

This quest should have been named "Edge of Tomorrow".. there's no way you can do this on the 1st attempt without getting booted out of the seat.

Actually, this quest may not be bugged. I found by pressing BOTH mouse buttons the view finder moves fine. So you push down both mouse buttons and use the hot keys to fire.

After several failed attempts the quest suddenly worked for me. I had "Bartender" loaded in the UI, held the right mouse button down to aim and it was easy peezy in one attempt. Hope it continues to work now for others.

Seems to be bugged for me. This is the fourth toon I do the quest on, with the first three it went fine but this time the moment I get into the chair I start taking massive damage from who-knows-where, and I'm dead within fifteen seconds. I even did a dungeon and came back, same problem. Anyone else experiencing this?

This quest is bugged for me, I tried the debuff of the time travel, twice and nothing, I'm using Macbook Pro, using a trackpad, and I have clicked with two fingers and nothing, somebody help me, or at least contact Blizzard and say that this quest is bugged.

Two important points (which took me a while to realize):

The first ability (for ground targets) is not like a laser beam that you sweep around. Fire it at the ground near the enemies, and it will then shoot all around that spot by itself. You are then free to aim elsewhere, while it continues to beam the area
The second ability (for air targets) will not "activate" until you cast it. You can be trying to aim at the flying targets, but the tracer will not indicate a hit. You have to press 2 first to switch to the air mode. Then you can see if your air shot will hit the flying targets.

tldr:

Ability 1 is fire and forget
Waste a cast of ability 2 to activate it

I cannot believe that this quest is still such a buggy chore to complete. Almost 2 months since Warlords launched and for many players it's impossible....without either having to travel back to The Blasted Lands (didn't work for me) or grouping up with another player (far easier and quicker).
For Gawd's sake Blizzard, please fix this - I can't face this agony again with another alt!

I got ejected many times, and not being able to kill the flying mobs, and only a few ground mobs. Then I looked here and realized I'd done it all wrong.

Spell no. 1 is for ground mobs
Spell no. 2 is for flying mobs

Although you CAN kill ground mobs with spell no. 2 but it takes like forever, you cannot kill flying mobs with spell no. 1.

I use a laptop and do not use a separate mouse. I tried holding down the right mouse the entire time as well as holding both mouse buttons down at the same time as previous posters suggested, but neither of these worked for me. The camera just went around in circles around the turret.

What finally did work for me?

Go into key bindings. Make sure that your left and right arrow keys are set to "turn right" and "turn left". This allows left and right control of the turret. Next, find "pitch up" and "pitch down" near the bottom of the list. Set your up arrow key to "pitch up" and your down arrow key to "pitch down".

At least this is what worked for me! Good luck.

In order to do this quest
- I had to remember that the sighting mechanism does not work until you continually hold down the right click on the mouse. Unless you are holding it down, you are wasting your time.
- You position your sighting mechanism by stroking the cursor positioner.
- If you cannot position your sighting mechanism quickly enough (I could not), then watch the display often enough and aim your weapon where you know one will appear, and plan on restarting many times.

O.K.THIS WORKS. Ferget about about button 1. (This thing is bugged), Use 2 to first wipe out the flying groups (and keep them under control as this progresses). And then, use the 2 button to kill the ground-based enemies ....... just keep hitting that 2 button till they are GONE (and it WILL take a lot of hits !).

May 2016 Patch 6.2.3. etc etc ..STILL BUGGED. However you aim and no matter which buttons you hold down, those flying things are impossible to kill. If you havent yet sent a message to Blizzard, do it now.

I thought this quest was bugged for me. I was able to complete by using the left mouse button to aim and the number key on my computer to aim and fire. 1 is for the ground targets and 2 is for the arial targets. I wasn't wearing any types of buffs either.

I also have this quest bugged where it logs me out every time I try to use ability #1.

It takes more time, but you can use ability 2 on ground units...it's clunky but it gets the quest done.

New bug - for me anyway. Using the first spell disconnected me. Did the whole thing with the second spell... took about 8 times firing to kill the ground mobs.

I've had no luck completing the second half of this quest- the turret will aim fine at the flying birds if I hold both mouse buttons, but pressing the '2' key does nothing. No flaming ball of anything, just...a sound. No visible missile, and no effect whatsoever on the birds.
I've tried logging out and back in several times, changing location and going back to it a day later, still nothing.
I've checked wowhead and the battle.net forums, but no luck with an answer yet.
Anyone else have this frustrating problem? :-/

(2021)This is fixed. i was able to do the quest. It took several attempt, but you don't start over, you continue from where you left of. just got to figure out the aiming, specially for the sky targets has the explosives turn and there is a delay as they fly through the sky, so you have to fire head of the target in the direction they are flying; you have to time it right.

For anyone who happens to check comments for this quest, as of today it's still pretty annoying. The first ability works fine for taking care of the golems on the ground, but the second ability will collide with your own turret most of the time, especially if you aim too far up. You don't damage yourself when this happens, but it makes it difficult to hit most of the flying mobs when most of your shots essentially explode in your face rather than flying out to hit them.
