I'm pretty sure that this quest is bugged because of terrain changes in Cataclysm. I got angry trying to run around and wall walk my way up to the pylon, then realized I could just drop down to the area from Tanaris.

I was on my Rogue with Safe Fall + Glyph of Safe Fall and still nearly died, even cutting the jump into 3 parts. If you really want to finish the quest, you may have to get naked, jump to your death, then make a corpse run.

tryed to turn it in but the gnome was buried in the earth w/o a ? over her head so...im guessing its still bugged

I did this quest today and had no issues with it. I was teleported to the pylon and then the gnome was not bugged when I turned it in.

I had to return to Moonwarden and ask to be teleported. It wasn't automatic but it was there.

What a pain in the Azeroth. Pre-Cat, you used to be able to ride up to the Eastern pylon with no trouble. Now they have sealed it off, for some unknown reason, and you can't even get to it from the Ironstone Plateau. I don't know who Ithis Moonwarden is but he isn't anywhere near Marshal's Stand.

There is a way to get there, though. In the course of doing the quests that lead to the Shaper's Terrace, your teleport device (the Un'goro Examinant) gets parked right near J.D. Collie. That takes you to the Shaper's Terrace, but you can easily get down to the Eastern pylon from there.

For some reason this bugged for me and I couldn't right click the pylon. Restarting WoW fixed it for me.

the NPC who you must hand in the 3 pylon discovery quests at (East, North and West) named J.D. Collie has still had a glitch about it since and because that NPC gets stuck at accepting those 3 quests being handed in to him.

Though, this is what seamed to have fixed it:

I exited the game at Tanaris.
I disabled the add-ons and entered the game and flew to Un'Goro Crater and the "?" had been there above his head.

When you accept the quest, you get ported to a site, the pylon is just downhill from the site, there's a big blue crystal on top of it.

when i first accepted the quest i did not get teleported, so i spent a good half an hour getting pissed off trying to climb the mountain and thinking this was the most poorly designed thing i had ever done in an mmo... user error is funny sometimes lol...... still slightly mad.... so salty

You can talk to the NPC, Ithis Moonwarden, right after accepting the quest.
She will teleport you up near the pylon.
To spot the pylon, just twist your screen around looking up a little bit.
Simply right-click it as soon as you are standing right next to it to activate the next dialog.

If you're reading this, after looking for a way up and not finding it, and need to find the NPC again, you can find her near (76.5, 48.5).

Description

High up in the cliffs above me there is a large crystal pylon. Who placed it there, I cannot say, nor can I determine any reason that it would be built in such a strange place.

Maybe you can make more of it than I can. I personally don't care what it does, so you needn't report back to me, but perhaps one of the scholars in Marshal's Stand might be interested in what you discover.
