As of the current Wrath live build (3.0.3), this quest is two-mannable with a tank and a healer. I just finished it with an 80 Protection Warrior and 80 Holy Paladin. Both characters have standard Northrend 5-man Blue/Green quality quest rewards.

Landgren is in the Cathedral at Onslaught Harbor - it's hard to miss.

Clearing to the Archibishop is reasonable. If you do like I did and just charge in the front door while on your flying mounts, you'll end up with 4-8 normal level 80 mobs - a couple Onslaught Paladins, Harbor Guards, Raven Bishops, and possibly a Gryphon Rider or two.

The main chamber has 2 packs of 5-mob pulls - 1 Raven Bishop, 1 Harbor Paladin, and 3 Harbor Guards. These will respawn at a standard mob respawn rate (I'll estimate it at 7 minutes for now). Their respawn also seems tied to Landgren's respawn, so you'll most likely have to clear the room again if someone kills him shortly before you arrive.

Landgren himself is accompanied by two normal Harbor Guards. Landgren has roughly 300k HP with 80k mana (essentially endless for the purposes of this encounter). He melees for 1200-1500 on a warrior with 20k armor, Mind Blasts for about the same with no resists, has a Shadow Word: Pain that ticks for an unknown amount (thanks Cleanse) and has a Mind Sear that ticks for under 1k for several seconds. His Mind Sear is otherwise like a regular priest's - it has a 10 yard AoE effect around the target. He is unstunnable and uninterruptable. At this time, you can Spell Reflect his Mind Blast and Shadow Word: Pain but not his Mind Sear.

At 50% life, he switches to Shadowform gaining 25% damage to his Shadow spells.

As you may have guessed, Shadow Resist is effective against all of his spells.

The fight itself is straightforward - no Fear, no Mind Control, no special tricks like that. The only issues to contend with are the possible respawn of the interior guards and the AoE of Mind Sear.

To deal with the possible respawn, you can bring some DPS. 1 competent DPSer -should- be enough, 2-3 would be safe. I had Landgren around 30% life with all the DPS coming from the Prot Warrior when the room respawned.

You can also do like I did and pull Landgren to the alcove (You have this word, yes? Alcove?) before his main chamber. Your healer/ranged DPS can stand in one corner to avoid Mind Sear while your tank/melee hold Landgren in the other corner. You should only have to handle a respawning Raven Bishop or two if you stay out of line of sight of the main chamber and the guards towards the exit of the cathedral.

To deal with the Mind Sear, just have your healer/ranged keep their distance from Landgren. Note that if you fight any Paladins at the same time as Landgren, they have a Charge/Intercept which can interrupt casting. As of this time, the Charge/Intercept does not spell-lock like a Kick or Counterspell.

Once Landgren is down, be sure to quickly use Arete's Gate to finish the quest and to grab the follow-up quest. Landgren himself doesn't really have any loot, so it's best to use the gate as soon as you kill him.

All in all, it's an easy fight provided you have a plan to deal with the adds and you use the gate right away.

Do not forget to take the followup from Lord-Commander Arete INSIDE the cathedral after he's done talking, everyone in my group missed that part.

Is this quest bugged? I've been waiting inside the Cathedral with a group for some time now and he wasn't here when we came in and he still isn't here.

Edit: Nevermind, he just has a very long respawn time.

Soloable as a holy paladin. I say this not to gloat, but in the interest of advising other holy paladins how to get this quest done themselves if they are unable to find a group.

Basically, clear out the trash in the cathedral (I pulled both groups at once and AoE'd down), then pull the Archbishop into the square shaped alcove near the entrance, fighting him at the cathedral end, not the entrance end. I basically focused on him, had Seal of Wisdom and Judgement of Wisdom up, and used all my damaging abilities - consecrate, holy shock, shield of righteousness and judgement of wisdom on every cooldown. Thanks to the massive regen of SoW/JoW and Divine Plea, I was rarely below 90% mana. I used Ret Aura as the Archbishop melees a fair amount for a caster, and his damage isn't anything to worry about.

I'd basically just continue this until my health reached 50%, then I'd cast 1 Holy Light and continue. I tried to maintain a Sacred Shield at all times as it's a fair chunk of mitigation for such a low mana cost. I also didn't bother getting out of Mind Sear - it doesn't do much damage at all. When the Raven Bishops respawned, I simply AoE'd them down, stunning them when they went to cast Raven Heal.

I should note that his Shadowform doesn't really change much. There's a very, very slight increase in his damage, but it's nothing that needs a strat change for. You simply continue using all your damaging cooldowns with SoW/JoW until he's dead. You then use the quest item on his body, wait for the UD DK to finish his dialogue, turn in the quest, and receive the follow up - which, coincidentally, is also soloable (see that page for details).

soloable by balance druid. took 5tryes and 8min fight but its possible to solo as this class to :D

simply put urself in a corner with lifebloom and rejuvenation up at all time. on the boss u summon ur trents every cd and keep monfire and insect swarm up. be ready to use mana pot and go in shadowmelt as u summon ur treants so ur pot cd restarts...

I solo'd this quest on my death knight. Mostly instance blues, 2 badge epics and the wraith spear from naxx.

I stayed in frost presence and threw whatever tanking gear I had in my bags on. With talents I was at about 24k hp with 514 defense. Not sure how big of a difference it made, but it certainly didn't hurt.

I was a runetap/scourge strike build at the time, with hysteria. I didn't use scourge strike at all, I only used death strike. Just keep the diseases up, use pestilence to kill the adds that are by him. Use bone shield, hysteria, rune tap and potions if you need.

It wasn't too scary and there were numerous times where I'd be at full health. Use Icebound fortitude and AMS as needed.

It just took a while, the packs were respawned by the time I had killed him. Not to scary, just slow.

If anyone else is around when you kill the boss, make sure to open the portal straight away. I was soloing it as an 80 Holy Paladin, when at about 30% a group of Horde came in and helped DPS him the rest of the way down. Once he was dead, I had to spend a couple of seconds checking my bags for the portal item, in which time the Horde group had opened their own portal. This meant that while I got the kill credit, I had to take him down a second time to get portal credit.

So beware - anyone can open the portal and take that part of the quest credit, and only one portal can be opened per kill - no matter who made the kill.

Some great quotes on this one from Lord-Commander Arete. He's an unusually polite member of the Ebon Blade, but when he gets upset at Landgren he goes off with 'YOU WILL TELL ME WHERE THE ADMIRAL IS OR I WILL DESTROY YOUR SOUL'. He's quickly becoming a great minor character.

I solo'd him as a ret paladin. The trick was to use seal of wisdom and judgement of wisdom, in order to keep mana up. You'll need to frequently use Holy Light on yourself, and immediately cleanse his hard-hitting DoT.

Another important thing is to fight him at the back of the room, behind the altar, or you might get your fight ruined by respawns in the cathedral.

When he's dead, use the portal, then speak to the NPC that spawns (Lord-Commander Arete) to complete the quest and get the follow-up.

I killed him today, and opened the portal (got the credit for it), but Arete wouldn't give me the follow up I waited until the end of the script (where he tortures the Archbishop a little bit), but then there was nothing. Clicking on Arete didn't make him speak to me or give me the follow up.

Just solo'd as 80 Resto shaman.Was bit of a long fight.But I proceeded to clear room.Then ran to top ledge he is standin on.I killed his adds first .Then popped up the totems I wanted .He does do a bit of dmg but just kept mana shield up and my mana stayed round 50% .Didnt have to blow mana tide or Bloodlust.Would think most healing classes could solo just not much dps and makes for long fight.Just hope the opposite faction doesnt come in while u are in combat. You are a sitting duck for lil while is all .

Just did it and it worked fine. Was able to solo as blood/frost DK but it was close a couple of times. Started by summoning ghoul pet and army of the dead and went in (cleared room first of course). Should have just gone in with amry, as I was counting on using Death Pact on pet during the fight, but it was killed early. From there it was straight tanking - keep diseases up, death strikes for health (saved me) and some lucky procs on bloodworms all helped alot. Had to drink a health pot and used all CDs (except hysteria - I didn't want to lose the health). He had me 1-2 hits from death near the end, but VB/RT poped just in time along with bloodworms and I ended the fight over 20k hps, lol.

Killed him, used Arete's Gate about 30 seconds later, nothing happened. Just kept giving me the message "You must be in the presence of Archbishop Langdren's corpse while Arete isn't present". Well Arete comes when you kill him, so? A few minutes after Arete's text wall was done, he left and I tried using Arete's Gate again and it didn't work. Why is this happening? I really don't think I can solo him again, I got pretty lucky.

Soloed him as Ret Paladin :) wasn't fun. Took 3 tries. Had shadow resist aura up, seal of light, judgement of light, and beat him with my 2hander. Just cleanse all the shadow wards, and pop all ur "art of war", free flash of light's. I didn't use consecrate so much to conserve mana. Didn't have to bubble or use lay on hands, but did use a mana pot. Oh and sacred shield up every 30 sec. HAVE FUN! Although I was looking at the quest rewards on the next quest, and missed it, now i have to kill hiim all over again :( /cry

Easy for a Blood or Unholy Death Knight, since you've got enough self-healing to counter his damage. I used Frost Presence with my standard 17/0/54 DPS build with tank gear to take him down. Remember to use your cooldowns (Raise Dead/Death Pact/Empowered Rune Weapon/Army of the Dead/tree-specific clickies) and this fight is in the bag. Even with the self healing and trading off between Bone Shield, Icebound Fortitude and Anti-Magic Shell, I still had to use Death Pact to regenerate a good chunk of health about three-fourths of the way into the fight. Frost DKs will most likely have a very difficult time with him. If you have it, Lichborne is suggested for self-Death Coil goodness.

Soloable as a Tankadin.

During the battle use every skill which allows you to gain mana (GBoW, Seal of Wisdom, judgement of wisdom, Divine plea <Dont forget to dispel divine plea when you start healing yourself!>) And heal yourself full everytime your health gets low. Dispel SW:P he does.. and it's pretty easy just takes a long time!

This quest is complete hell.

First time, we got him and left, didn't realize I had to stay and talk to someone. Was trying to get away from the respawns. Didn't help either that Questhelper confirmed the turnin NPC was on the main land.

Second time I died and lost the NPC

Third time we finally got him. Took forever.

Respawns are absurdly fast here.

Solo'd as an 80 Discipline Priest. I have pretty decent gear, almost full 25m naxx. I think as a cloth mana user at least Naxx 10 gear is needed. Just AE'd all the mobs in the room down with Holy Nova. Then I focused the 2 adds quick while Pain Suppression'd then ran to the SE corner of the room (while facing his spawn spot). This corner allows you to stand and fight there without worrying about the adds respawning and adding.

I relied on Rapture to keep my mana @ around 15-20% pretty much the entire fight, except for when Shadowfiend was up. Just kept dots up on him and PW:S myself with a few heals when needed until Shadowfiend pops. Every time Shadowfiend popped I would burn my mana on DPSing him and then back to maintaining about 15-20% (just enough to live, dot him, and shield myself while waiting for the next Shadowfiend) again while just keeping dots up and PW:S/flash healing myself. Need to use Inner Focus/Power Infusion/Pain Suppression as every time they are up to save on mana. Pop Hymn of Hope right after a bubble to get a few ticks off too.

The whole fight is long and takes patience but you never really get into a danger zone. It's just tedious. You'll most likely have to go through 3 Shadowfiend uses and bring 1 mana pot. The fight took me a little over 15 minutes but it was done. I was pretty surprised because I only read of Pallies and DK's (surprise) and the occasional Shaman soloing him. This is for the clothies!

Soloed Archbishop Landgren as a retribution paladin (level 80, deadly/hateful/naxx10 gears). He is extremely tough for ret pals, but you can defeat him eventually if you take time.

Judgment of Wisdom, Seal of Wisdom, and Blessing of Wisdom are must. Otherwise you'll soon run out of mana and can't last the long grueling fight.

Ya well i soloed this easy as pie as an unholy dk. i have mostly epics but i can see a dk in greens being able to solo this quest. Basically use AMS evey time you can for the helpful mitigation. Keep diseases up and use death strike. Easy as pie.

Soloed as a resto shaman in nax hc/uld normal gear. Searing totem, flame shock, lava burst and heal, heal, heal. Use water, not earth shield. And kill him at the most back or you will aggro respawns. Took me about 15 min and 1 mana tide totem.

As a prot warrior who's used to soloing 5-man's I can safely say this this quest is a PAIN IN THE ASS.

Don't bother trying to solo it, you'll need a healer since he's not stunnable or interruptable and he casts much more frequently than Relfect is up,

Soloed as a Retribution Paladin in blues, crafted epics and rep. rewards. Used seal of light and had sacred shield on as much as I could. Judged with Light and dispelled his Shadow Word: Pain as soon as he cast it on me, and self-healed when The Art of War procced.

He was easy; dont forget to hand in the quest where you kill him. Dont do as I did, as I had to kill him twice to hand it in... :/

Just soloed as a 0/56/15 Demo warlock. Just kept my Felguard on him and took out the adds first, using siphon life and drain life when needed. Had to soul shatter once also. Quite easy, just a little slow :)

Relatively straight forward to solo as a T8 geared Enhancement Shaman. Just used my cooldowns and burned him down. You may want to save Maelstrom procs for a Healing Wave after he uses Mind Shear, but other than that nothing real tricky.

i soloed both this quest and the one following with mal'ganis no problem at with with a ret pally. all you gotta go is keep seal of light up. ret aura. kings. and pop judgement of wisdom so you dont run out of mana. i needed no bubbles or lay on hands.

Quite easy with afflic lock (80, pvp epics) + voidwalker + soulshatter. Just keep up corruption (heals you if talented), and heal your pet. Just make sure you pull him into the left upper corner, as there is a chance the room will re as it takes a bit of time. His adds are cake, just dot em and shield yourself (or HoT).

For fun, I tried to do this with the daily quest (From their corpses rise) and get a bunch of minions whacking at him, but unfortunately the quest item does not work on the corpses inside the cathedral (by design I would assume...). Worth a try.

Fun quest line, and nice followup (glad to see they have kept SOME elite NPCs in this world..) most quests are made 2 easy imo. Cool interaction too when you open the gate. :) Have yet to do the followup ..

Soloed as a Tankadin with a mix of ToC/Crafted Epics and Blues.

Use Shadow Resistance Aura and go to town on him while using the Pillars to LoS Mind Blasts. At 50% he'll go in to shadow form, but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. If mobs respawn, feel free to grab them and continue going to town on the Archbishop - With Sanctuary they'll fill you up with mana while Hand of the Righteous coupled with Seal of life will heal you for more then they can damage.

Didn't Bubble or Lay on Hands, but depending on gear differences you may need to.

Just soloed him as Prot Paladin in the Crafted Saronite Set plus a rep blue, not the best gear to be sure. It was rough and took awhile but I managed to take him down in the end.

Sacred Shield, Seal of Light, Divine Plea and alternating JoL or JoW depending on my needs and he went down eventually.

Easy soled as a hunter. He has a nasty Shadow Word: Pain and Mind Blast. If you get low on health just get out of LOS and bandage and wait for spirit bond to heal you. Just remember to heal the pet.

I'm a protection paladin (in mostly blues, a few greens, and a couple of epics), and I solo'ed this - it was difficult, to say the least, and took several minutes, but if you're a prot pally, it can be done if you just stay on your toes with quick thinking and stay focused and level headed.

I did many things the same as the post above me. I cleared the trash up to the door, buffed up to put myself over 24k health, turned on Seal of Vengeance and Greater Blessing of Sanctuary, and hit the mobs inside the Cathedral sanctuary with Hand of Reckoning to draw them to me. After clearing them, I then hit the Archbishop with Hand of Reckoning, backed up and followed with Exorcism when he dashed toward me, and then Judgment of Light. My tactic was to pull him just to the doorway. Not into it, else you'll get the guards outside on you when they respawn.

From there, you just start whittling him down. It'll take a minute to rid him of his regular guards. Keep all your focus on him, let the AoE take care of them.

Remember you have a few tools in your arsenal to keep your nose above water - Divine Protection, Divine Shield, Sacred Shield, Divine Plea, and Avenging Wrath. I never used the latter (I should've). Use them the moment they're available or necessary. Once you set Divine Plea up, it refreshes itself, so avoid the temptation to hit it again. I kept my Shadow Resistance Aura up and absorbed probably around 20-30% of each shadow hit. As he dragged me down under 10k, I changed from Seal of Vengeance to Seal of Light. When I was OOM from his spells, I kept Sacred Shield going and hit Flash of Light every few seconds. When I was down to 5k, I healed. When I couldn't heal from OOM, I potted. Combined, the Seal of Light and Judgment of Light will kick back quite a lot of health to you, and at this point your goal is to endure, rather than deal fast damage/create threat (which is what we're used to doing, so it's easy to go on autopilot and change seals and judgments and auras).

Again, when he calls in his reinforcements, ignore them. Keep your eyes on him, let AoE handle it. Keep hitting him:

Avenger's Shield

again and again and again. He's immune to stun, so don't bother. I didn't mess around with Exorcism because it's too much time to stand around casting when you've also got to heal yourself. When you're healing, you'll take the hits and will lose a lot of the green, but don't obsess over it, just carry on. Try not to use Lay On Hands until absolutely necessary - if you can get him under 150k before you use it, even better. That's halfway.

At some point you'll notice that Seal/Judgment of Light are replacing almost everything he's taking out, and sometimes even popping you back up to the halfway mark on the health bar. But most of the time I bounced around between 2k-10k health. Just keep enduring, whittling him down, and healing. You (hopefully) should make it out after 5-7 minutes of fisticuffs.

When he finally falls, don't get all excited and forget to put up Arete's gate before you leave! :)

Tried and failed to solo it as a prot warrior. Buffed up with food, potions, and a scroll of stamina, and threw on Battle Shout. Also guzzled a magic resist pot from a TBC quest that I had lying around right before engaging.

He didn't hit very hard or very fast: I popped last stand/enraged regeneration at about 1/3 health, and didn't die until a minute and a half later, so I'd estimate he does around 300 dps. He just has too much health to burn down, and he cannot be silenced, interrupted, spell reflected or stunned.

Demo locks appear to be able to solo this though: I met one on his way out as I was going in, and had to wait for Landgren to respawn.

Soloed this as an Ulduar geared prot pally. It was a bit harder than I was expecting given the comments and I ended up having to use my bubble and LoH. I think I could have done better and avoid that. The next quest was far easier to solo - I spent most of that one at full health.

Has anybody ever had trouble with being unable to turn in the quest?

We just barely managed to kill the Archbishop, then summoned Arete. We got the scene between Arete and the Archbishop's soul, all the way up to: Now that the unpleasantness is finished with, let's talk about you dealing with Grand Admiral Westwind. Then... nothing. Arete just stands there with no question mark over his head. We thought maybe we misunderstood and went back to quest giver. Again, nothing. So, we tried to go back and kill him all over again and, of course, wiped badly.

Anybody else have a similar difficulty...

Soloed as BM hunter with gearscore 4900.
Just keep the aggro of yourself and constantly Mend Pet. Works like a charm, even though it is a long haul :)
Didn't have to put out any traps, and my simulated deaths only to keep aggro down.

Soloable as a blood DK tank. However, unless you have really good gear, I seriously do NOT recommend you try to solo this. Wait until you are level 80 and have average ilvl of around 200.

Did this as a level 79 DK with an average ilvl of around 155 and nearly died around 5 times. It took so long to kill him that the adds inside the room respawned. It took around 5 minutes to kill him and I had to use a potion to save my life when all my runes were on cooldown.

For those players still interested in trying this (why do you hate yourself so much), spam Mark of Blood, Vampiric Blood, Icebound Fortitude, Anti-Magic Shell, Rune Tap, Raise Dead, and Death Pact every chance you get. Aside from cooldowns, also spam Death Strike. Make sure to also have a potion for emergencies. Fight him at the very back of the room as to not accidentally aggro the respawning adds.

The follow up quest "The Admiral Revealed" is easy to solo, though.

There must have been a change in a recent patch, because no one has mentioned the two mobs he has with him. Non-elite, so they died pretty quickly to my ret pal, but coupled with dealing with him, my resources are nearly drained by then and I tend to die before my CDs reset.

Soloed as a retribution paladin with

1494 armor (with berserk enchant on my weapon activating more like 13 k armor)

I used Seal of light, blessing of might and retribution aura. Healed myself when Art of War activated (obviosly with flash of light ^^) and ocasionally when my health dropped i use Holy light. The thing is i was kind of running out of mana even though JoW(judgement of wisdom) and had the replenishment allmost all the time (probably because of my rotation and the constant healing)

Ps he is imune to stun so probably other similar effects don`t work on him...
He also crits for 4k (on 13-14 k armor) or so but that`s easily manageble ...

Soloed as a Shadow Priest with 5.5k GS, but could do it with worse gear as long as you have the mana pool.

Landgren is a SP too, so you know what you're up against. Make sure you have Shadow Protection up. Get his adds down as fast as possible, then keep your normal single-target rotation up at all times, dispell his SW:P and heal yourself when necessary.

With Shadow Protection you're more likely to be troubled by his melee damage than his magic, at least that's what I found.

Not really a difficult solo fight for a geared SP.

Solo'd as an arcane mage in 5653 GS. The hardest quest in Icecrown I had experienced. Took me 5 tries and wouldn't have gotten it had I not gotten a godsend of 2 Valkyr procs off Nibelung during mirror images, bugging out the threat mechanic giving me 45 extra seconds of no threat while the valkyr effectively healed through his and one add's damage. I didn't worry about the adds seeing if I didn't kill him in the time alotted by mirror images/valkyr, he wasn't going down. I merely pulled him with a A blast, polied one add, popped cds, popped MI, and laid into him.

It's fun to solo this and the follow up quest as a 78 shadow priest (patch 4.0.1)

Keep your dots up, flash heal, bubble whenever the Weakened Soul debuff is finished, use trinkets/dispersion/shadowfiend when they're ready, and happily stay at full mana from the new Masochism talent.

Took me about 10 minutes per boss fight.

Make sure you talk to the NPC after finishing off the archbishop, if you don't do this, you will have to kill him again. I made this mistake.

I've attempted several times at killing him, and yet when he gets to around 50% health, he casts 'Protection Sphere' and becomes immune to ALL forms of damage, spells, etc - wtf am I suppose to do from here?

I just cleared into the cathedral solo with my 79 shaman and the archbishop isn't here. Any ideas? After a few minutes the 5 packs respawned. Ugh...

Some of the biggest loads of bull I have ever seen have to do with this quest, pulling the entire cathedral at once, getting there with the guy not spawned, having to wait, mobs spawn so I attack them and instantly the dude finally spawns and I die, re-spawning on the ledge where they can't get me, water elemental aggroes some mobs and they melee attack me from the ground. I hate this quest with a passion.

Yes the boss was not there when I entered, I had to kill the mob of mobs twice in the cathedral, but no biggie, Was a good time to farm the frostweave.

Please remember this in all quests. If you can't do it at the level you are, don't abandon it. When you get to lvl 85, you can always go back and do it, and instead of getting XP you will get better gold for the quests.. Wait until you go back. then while there abandon it and pick it back up for the better gold rewards. Then after completion of this particular quest you will see the blue exclamation dailies. I made 13 to 16 gold per quest at lvl 85.

I soloed this as a 77 Prot Pally with average gear (a blend of Northrend greens and blues). Health is 19k, armor is 15k. It was VERY easy (not bragging; it didn't require a ton of skill on my part), though it did take a very long time. I used Ret aura, Seal of Insight (to heal and keep mana up for a long fight) and Kings to buff each stat a bit. I never got below 50% health, and never once had to use Flash Heal. Instead, I simply made sure I always had three charges of Holy Power ready for when Word of Glory was available, and that's all it took to keep me alive. I used Holy Shield and Divine Protection when they were available, to minimize damage.

I fought him right up on the platform where he was standing, making sure to keep him far back enough not to re-aggro the new spawns out in the rest of the room.

Hardest part was AOE-ing the mobs while clearing the room, but it wasn't much of a problem with my armor.

DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE GUY WHO APPEARS LETS YOU TURN IN YOUR QUEST! He will make a long speech, then you can turn in right on the spot.

I also soloed the next quest in the chain the exact same way, substituting the magic resist aura this time.

I attempted this quest today on Medievh Realm and it is bugged. Both the main NPC (Archibishop Landgren) and the mobs inside the cathedral are missing and not spawning. Submitted a bug report. In order to complete quest I had to join a small group and realm hop to get the completion of the quest. Make sure the group you join is not a raid size group, or you will not get credit for it.

Don't forget to open the gate by being within the 10yrds of the archbishops corpse. I forgot, flew back and he had despawned already forcing me to kill him again which I just barely managed the 1st time.

With the inclusion of the new Level Scaling mechanic introduced in 7.3.5, this has once again become the single most difficult non-dungeon/non-raid quest in the entire game, across all content and expansions from vanilla through Legion. The Archbishop has a tremendous amount of hit points, is surrounded by a dozen mobs that hit like trucks and spawn back in very quickly, and is located in one of the most hazardous, densely populated zones in Northrend. Impossible to solo before 80, especially for a caster. Extremely difficult, maybe even still impossible to solo well into mid-80's.

After clearing the entire area with my main, I spawned back in with my velf. In the 90 seconds I had to chip him down before all the mobs spawned back, I couldn't even get him down to 90% health with a level 75 Demonologist warlock. Abandoned the quest and tried again at 82, still unable to solo. Will try again at 90. Unnecessary at this point, but now I'm determined to get it done.

Did it at level 77 (bm hunter) with some help from my main. Cleared the two groups of mobs in the room with the main, then logged back to my 77 hunter's dead body which was waiting in the room. Re-entered body, healed up, spawned pet. Killed the two adds, then dragged the npc over, positioning my pet in the corner of the room, with myself then positioned as close to the wall as possible, as far away from him as possible whilst still in range of him.

That way, my pet was hitting him, I was healing my pet, whilst I was shooting arrows at the npc. I was out of range of most of the npcs abilities. I was along the wall because when the mobs respawned, (and they do) I was out of their aggro.

Edit: *sigh* Left without handing in the quest, had to go back in there (died again) and clear again with the main. Good fun.

I couldn't turn the quest in after completing it, I tried logging in and out after summoning Arete, doing the RP scene all over again but summoning him in a different position, it didn't make a difference. I submitted a bug report, but I doubt it'll get fixed.

As of patch 10.0.0 I completed it but the guy wouldn't let me turn in the quest, he disappeared so I killed the bishop and summoned him back once again, when he stopped talking I still couldn't turn in so I did /reload and there it was, could turn it in and accept the follow up quest.
