The Alliance Lumberboat is located at (22, 84). Don't mistake it for the Alliance ship with Captain Brightwater on it like I did at first. :( It's a big wooden one (east of the docks) with the alliance banners on it.

Basically once you get on your red rocket *coughs and tries not to laugh*, steer left until you're heading north towards the lumberboat. Avoid all icebergs and ice floes along the way and thread through them! You WILL get stuck in them, and then ejected from your rocket, and then have to get that annoying Element 115 again. Think of this quest as those hokey waterskiing racing games you see all the time in arcades, where you have to avoid obstacles along the way.

Once you reach the lumberboat, regardless of the time you have left on your fuse, you'll be ejected high into the air with a parachute, and you should see some lovely fiery explosions on the boat.

Flag and tap the flag right near the Lighthouse. It has to be fully in your factions control to have the quest NPC spawn.

The quest itself isn't too bad - get some Element 115, grab a rocket, and plow it into the ship. At least for Horde going for the Alliance ship, it seemed fairly simple.

However, what can be tricky is actually unlocking the quest if Venture Bay is not popular on your server. There was myself and one ally when I first ventured there, and so I had to wait for them to leave to start the lighthouse converting. It then took about 10 minutes to convert from full Alliance to full Horde (the bar needs to reach the very end to spawn NPCs).

After they finally spawned, the rest was cake.

Completed on my Druid the first attempt

THEN, the next day I decided to take my Shaman out there to get the achievement, xp, etc.

Tried 5 times with no success, had a friend make sure the boat was not already on fire before I hit it. On the 5th attempt my character got stuck in the hull of the boat and had to port out. Until they fix this I will not try this again.

Any alliance care to comment on their version of the quest? I've run into every boat 3 times each just for kicks and haven't gotten credit on any of them. Every one of these comments is from a horde player commenting on where the alliance ship is.

This quest IS BUGGED. Takes a few or more tries to get it right.

I submitted a ticket and this is what the GM Emailed me:

Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department.

After some research it appears the issue you are having may be related to your User Interface (UI). This applies whether you have a custom UI or not. To help resolve this issue we recommend the following steps:

With the game closed please try moving or deleting your WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE folders out of your World of Warcraft directory. These are temporary cache files that will be recreated by the game the next time you launch. Moving them to the desktop makes it easy to replace them if necessary.

Please also note these folders contain your saved macros and UI addons. By moving or deleting these folders you will also remove any saved preferences, UI addons, or macros you may have added. However, in order for us to troubleshoot the issue we need to remove any modifications to the game and make sure we are diagnosing the default settings.

Step by step guides for your operating system can be found below.

Windows XP/2000
-Click the Start button, select Programs, select Accessories and select Windows Explorer.
-In the new window click the + beside the My Computer option, this should expand a list.
-Click the + beside the Hard Disk with the (C:) label on the end (Or whichever Hard Disk the game was installed on).
-Click the + beside Program Files.
-Scroll down until you find World of Warcraft in the list and double click it.
-In the panel on the right there should be a list of files and folders, the WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE folders should be in this list.
-Single click one of those folders and it should become highlighted, once that folder is highlighted press the Delete key on your keyboard. Do this for all three folders.
-Once the three folders have been deleted you can close Windows Explorer.
-Start the game again using the World of Warcraft Launcher to see if this helps resolve your issue.

-Note: Please do not run any UI installers or load any mods beforehand, as we want to eliminate them as part of the issue.

Windows Vista
-Click the Start button, select All Programs, select Accessories and select Windows Explorer.
-In the new window click the + beside the My Computer option, this should expand a list.

Note: If you are having difficulty locating the Virtual Store, you will need to manually navigate to the Virtual Store directory.

Using the "Organize" option toward the upper left-hand corner of the explorer window, select "Folder and Search Options" followed by the "View" tab in the new window. Ensure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is enabled.
- You will now be able to navigate to the following path and remove the Cache, Interface, and WTF folders:
- C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft\
- Substitute %username% for your windows account username.
- Example: C:\Users\JDOE\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft\

-Once these extra three folders have been deleted you can close Windows Explorer.
-You will need to restart your system at this point.
-Start the game again using the World of Warcraft Launcher, when starting the game right click on the game icon, and select Run As Administrator. This will make sure that any settings you change in game are saved correctly.

-Note: Please do not run any UI installers or load any mods beforehand, as we want to eliminate them as part of the issue.

Mac OS X
-Click on the desktop and then the Go menu on the top.
-Click Applications.
-Scroll down to World of Warcraft and select it.
-Right-click (Control+click if you own a 1-button mouse) on the Cache folder and select Move to Trash.
-Perform the above step for the Interface and WTF folder as well.
-Double-click the World of Warcraft application to launch the game and verify if the issue has been resolved.

-Note: Please do not run any UI installers or load any mods beforehand, as we want to eliminate them as part of the issue.

Important: Please note that certain options (basic Interface Panel options such as combat text, macros, and keybindings) are now stored realm side and will not be reset using this method. If you would like to reset everything back to their default values, please perform these additional steps (steps are the same for both Windows and Mac OS X machines).

Basic Interface Panel Options Reset:

(Note: This will reset all standard Blizzard Interface Options including those not accessible from the Interface Panel. This WILL NOT remove any installed addons or third party UI mods.)

1) Exit the World of Warcraft by logging out of the game to your login screen.

2) On the login screen, click on the "Options" button.

3) Click on the "Reset UI Settings" button.

4) Click on "Okay" to confirm the base UI options reset.

Macro Removal:

(Note: This must be done in-game. There is no current method of resetting all macros. Macros must be manually deleted one at a time.)

1) Open your "Create Macro" window in-game by going to the options menu in-game and pressing the "Macros" button or by typing in "/macro" (without the quotes) into your chat window.

2) Select the macro tab you wish to remove a macro from (General Macros or the Character Specific Macro tab).

3) Select the macro you wish to delete and click on the "Delete" button on the bottom left hand corner of the "Create Macro" window.

4) Follow the same procedure to delete additional macros.

Key Bindings Reset:

(Note: This must be done in-game)

1) Open your "Key Bindings" window by going to the options menu in-game.

2) Choose whether you want to reset your general key bindings or character specific key bindings by checking or un-checking the "Character Specific Key Bindings" check box in the upper right hand corner of the "Key Bindings" window.

3) Click on the "Reset To Default" button.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please submit a new In-Game ticket and we will attempt to assist you further.

Second time I did this, General Gorelock did not appear after fully capping the flag. I submitted a ticket against it, and the reply was "working as designed"
Do you have to do something else, such as completely clear the island of alliance troops (couldn't find any)

To use the rocket, you MUST have the element 115 in your inventory. You loot this from the VENTURE CO boat in the harbor (the quest giver says 'goblin boat' they mean the venture co. boat). This has a limited duration, so get the item, run to the rockets, with the item in your inventory you can jump on the rockets like all the other new vehicles

Ok Boys and Girls here's what you do !
1 Go to General Gorlok in front of the Lighthouse and get the Quest @ 14.86
2 Go to the Goblin or Venture Co ship and get the Element 115. The ship is the Middle one @ 16.80 and the stuff in in the middle level of the ship in the very back Redish colored Barrells Pick one up.
3 Now run to the torpedos @ 13.89 and get on one.
4 It steers like a boat so doesnt turn very fast make your way to the Lumbership @ 22.84. Cool
5. Now just Ram into it and your Done go turn it in.

As far as taking back over the area Dont know The Alliance on the server I play on never seem to get it so have never had to...

its like everyone is on here to tell their story which always leaves out half the details hahah OMG! anyway for those who dont have cords u can see the light house on your map.. just go to it and when you get the quest from the guy .. get you element from the venture company ship then.. THE RED ROCKETS ARE BEHIND THE LIGHTHOUSE..

The quest works fine, the onlt thing you have to watch our for, is when you hit it side on, you don't get wedged into the boat, so it is best off safe to go around the ALL the icebergs to the big one at the back, go around it, and smash that boat head on.

Ok so I tried this a few times and after going all the way around the icebergs i found a much easier way.

You take a really long turn and just left of the 2 big icebergs is the sweet spot. also you hit the "X" on the boat, spot on so it's not random.

FYI: you will actually enter a fatigue area with this path, but it will only be for a few seconds.

When you pick up the quest, first go to the middle boat (the one with the goblins on it.), go downstairs and in the end of it there's a lootable object.

When you pick this up, run out and into the water - swim/run back to the quest giver. and to the southwest of him is a pier with red torpedos, that you can jump on and ride.

After that, go the safe way around, you have time enough and you wont crash and waste your time this way.

i heave tried this quest countless times, there where times it worked well, but at most of the times this quest just doesnt give credit.
afther doeing this q on my main and now on my alt i advice everyone to avoid this quest from miles, it will waste much of ur time, just did this quest 8 times and wasnt working, tryed the ways ppl on wowhead told and still doesnt work, before this i did it with my main over 10 times all times worked well(exactly doeing same thing over and over)....
just lost over 40 minutes for this unfinished sthitty quest!

This comment is great, combined with the picture linked in another comment showing the path around.

The one thing the horde-version of this item's comments is missing is TURNING.

I'm sure there are people like me who use strafe and mouse look and don't even have Turn Left and Turn Right bound on the keyboard. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to turn the stupid boat, but started suspecting the turn keys were required. Alliance version of this quest comments confirmed it. Bound to left/right arrows on the keyboard and got it the first try after that.

The quest is (imo) impossible trying to use mouse look to turn the boat. And for some reason they didn't make the strafe keys duplicate the turning functionality.

The quest is bugged! There is a defender under water off the end of the pier dealing damage. Even if you survive that, and take a rocket ride and destroy the ship you do not get credit for the quest.

The quest isn't bugged.

The enemy NPCs aren't properly despawning when control of Venture Bay switches sides. They visually despawn but they are still there, keeping the rockets from spawning.

As insane as it sounds, people have actually done just this in real life.

During World War II, the Japanese Navy developed a weapon called the "Kaiten" - a rocket-propelled, human-piloted explosive missile essentially homologous in functionality to the rocket in this quest.

just did this on 80 ally dk... np... like other posts say, grab quest.. go to middle boat with the goblins and whack them... which gives rep for the goblin factions (bb, etc.. helpful in the insane title acheev too)... go into middle level of boat and get the 115 buff (level 74ish's there)... walk back out, fly back to dock near quest giver and hop on a rocket in the water and manuver your way around the icebergs... rocket steers like a dump truck so going around is best bet... ram the horde boat (broadside in my case) and vwwaaaalaaa... acheev! oh, but u gotta turn in quest first :D

After reading all the posts about the quest being bugged, I still wanted to give it a try. As of patch 3.2.2, it seems to be fixed. I went to the sub without the element 115 (fuel) and the rockets were there (4 of them total). So i went back to get the fuel and hopped on the rocket and went directly into an iceburg. The PvP capture bar was completely filled for the horde and I didn't have any troubles. Give it another try.

Bah. General Gorlok isn't spawned for me. We have the island, the guards are here, the vendors are here, but the General isn't. This island has been one of the buggiest p.o.s. this game has ever made. It seem like whenever I have a new character come by to do this quest there's always something wrong.

2. Go to the middle boat in the harbor (the boat next to the captain)
3.Go in and go straight forward to the last room and pick up the Element 115 on the floor to the right.
4. Go back to the Goblin
5 Aim on the boat with the rocket.

Weird, I am standing at the place where I am supposed to pick up the quest, and I don't see the quest giver. Our faction fully controls the base, and no spawn. Also strange, I see 2 vendor at the venture coin traders. One horde and an alliance, both standing at the same spot. Bugged?

I got the quest, completed it, but when I returned to turn it in, the ally guards had killed the quest giver. I went back 3 times over an 8 hour period and no respawn. We have controlled it all day. Do I have to wait til ally control it before he reappears after we take it back over?

If you're like me and came to this page trying to figure out where the General was to begin with, seeing as your faction controls the node but you can't seem to find him, check the General's comments page for more information.

The quick answer is - if Horde took Venture Bay and then let him die, he won't respawn until Horde loses it and takes it back again.

I think that the most helpful thing someone could have said to me was this:

First of all, yes it is understandable that Horde must HAVE the bay in full control
before the quest npc spawns (wait a few minutes after you gain full control for him to spawn)

BUT

READ THIS

the hardest part for me, and others

thank you person who stated the coords.

For those without coords, the rockets are located directly SOUTH of the quest giver.
there is a path that leads downhill behind the building the quest giver is standing in front of

it took me FOREVER to figure that out.

Having said that,
yes you need to get the Element 115 off the MIDDLE boat in the harbor.

and run back to the goblin (BEHIND THE BUILDING that the quest giver is in front of)
within a few minutes so the stuff does not wear off.
The rocket ride is very easy... hold down right mouse and steer with your mouse

The General didn't spawn even if the flag changed to Horde.
What I had to do was kill the NPC:s at the stable just by the lighthouse.
He then spawned instantly, and guards &c started popping up.

Looting the element was impossible with autoloot set.
The lootbar just ran its two seconds and ba-dong - nothing.
So I held shift to un-autoloot instead, and looted manually.

So the other comments definitely helped me do this quest. thing is there's a 2minute timer to get to the rocket from the boat. If you are not to the rocket in time the fuel expires. hope this post helps.

Thanks to no one here who actually said how this quest is done. So I'll go ahead and do that. I'm Horde, so the instructions are for Horde. Sorry, Alliance.

First you need to capture Venture Bay. Easy enough. Enable PvP, and kill the guards and wait for the objective to be completely controlled by Horde. You will likely be waiting at least ten minutes, so you must enable your PvP as while waiting for your enforcements or you can't capture the objective. While standing there, it will wear off if you just kill the guards and wait, then you will need to flag yourself to get posession of the 'flag', much like you do during Eye of the Storm, and other PvP objectives when you have to wait it out. When the NPC spawns at the Lighthouse/Flag, get the quest.

Just to the north are three ships. You need to fly over to the middle ship to get down in to the galley to get an Element 115. You can only carry one on you, and it slows your speed. Fly back to the dock where Bubb Lazar is which is just south of where you picked up the quest, and you'll see four torpedos at the dock. Now with the Element 115 in your bag, you can mount a rocket.

Immediately you will begin moving on it, and quite fast, but be careful NOT to hit any ice floes, or anything for that matter because you'll smash the rocket and it knocks you in to the air, then you'll have to go back, get another Element 115 and start over. So get your bearings straight of where the lumber ship is first. It is just east of the three ships (can't miss it with the Alliance flags on it). Once you mount the rocket the best way is to veer left, avoid your ice floes and head directly to the Alliance lumber ship. Bash in to it, and you'll be knocked up in to the air and the quest will then be complete.

Just in case you dont see this quest giver after flag has been claimed for ur faction, make sure you make flag go all the way to ur faction. (and flagged for pvp obviously)

If you clear out the enemy NPC in the doorway, you can hang out inside the building directly to the west of the flag here without losing the meter. Decent way to bottleneck anyone that might attempt to attack you.

The one thing I don't understand about this quest/daily -- why such a small amount of honor gained upon completion, considering that all of the other dailies give you at least 50 points a shot? Strange.

After getting the achievement Grizzled Veteran I really see no point in doing this quest again. It is just not worth the time for 4 lousy Honor Points. There are much more rewarding ways for me to waste my time.

I just tried it today because I was farming Steamwheedle Cartel rep. I killed all the Alliance NPC's, captured Venture Bay, and when it got all the way to the end of the bar. Gorlok spawned. I took the quest from him, got the Element 115, flew back to the goblin with the torpedoes, took one over and blew up the Alliance boat. It said quest completed so I flew back to Gorlok... and I couldn't turn in the quest. There is a yellow question mark on the minimap where he is, but it's not over his head and I can't talk to him.

I was still flagged for PVP so I unflagged myself and let it expire. Still didn't work. I flew over to Howling Fjord and back to re-zone. Still didn't work. I logged out. Still didn't work. I exited the game completely and relaunched it. Still didn't work. My last thing will be to drop the quest and try to redo it, but I opened a ticket and am waiting to hear from a GM. They'll probably paste the boilerplate crap about resetting my user interface, but I'll reply here and let you know if it's still bugged.

As of patch 6.1, there is nor longer Honor Points included.

For this quest though, if you haven't got control of the lighthouse, you simply need to kill the 3 guards outside the building then simply stand outside the lighthouse to gradually take control. Once the meter reaches the full Horde side, your quest mob and horde infantry spawn the area, and you can then retrieve the quest from the quest giver

Be mindful that the NPC of this quest will only spawn when the Progress bar is fully at the Horde side, which means, you'll have to be flagged for pvp, either with the other quests or manually (right-clicking your toon portrait)

Looks like this is bugged in Legion. If you are riding the rocket and change zones (i.e. Venture Bay > The Frozen Sea), then you will be dismounted.

The Alliance version has a good amount of room to be able to stay in the zone and hit the ship, thus being able to complete it with relative ease. The Horde quest, however, does not have a complete path in the same zone from what I can tell. The closest area is around the rocky point close to the ship (around 20,86). The gap is smallest there. If you have some lag, you have a decent shot at bridging the Frozen Sea gap. Those of you that don't have much lag at all will find it hard to complete this as of today.

If I missed a full route to the boat, let me know! I would love to finish this for the achievement.

Riding the Red Rocket

General Gorlok at the lighthouse in Venture Bay wants you to destroy the Alliance Lumber Boat.

General Gorlok will only be present at the lighthouse when the Horde has it in their possession.

Description

You there, <race>! Get your lousy carcass over here!

The Alliance have a shipment of lumber all ready for transport just northeast of here. Since getting our hands on that wood is out of the question, there's only one thing to do - destroy it!

The goblin at the end of the dock here has some torpedoes all ready to go. He's got all the fuel for them on the docked goblin ship to the north.

Get some fuel, then commandeer one of the torpedoes and ride it into their ship.
