The important thing to note is that he stomps with his right foot, so stay on the left of him (right of him from most people's perspective, but it's actually his left.)

As a warlock (possibly hunters as well) it's very easy to bug these guys out. When your pet has aggro, you can stand just inside the hitbox circle and they will not stomp or throw bouders at you, making them even easier to kill.

These guys suck for all melee classes and are designed with a somewhat great hostility towards melee classes. I seriously tried it 3 times and died each time.

I tried to move left & right but some laggy movement detection of the server assumed that I was hit even when the giant actually had to run to me after his cast while I was stunned. Also I was outside the graphics that indicate the area effect but whatevs...

Second try I was running through the giant towards his back always when he started to cast but the laggy movement detection server assumed I was still in the AOE zone of his stomp even when he had to turn around after his cast to attack me. So I died a 2nd time there.

3rd try was to circle around him with permanent +70% speed talent of my Rogue but -again- the laggy movement detection of the server assumed that I was hit when on my computer it showed I was actually next to his side (because circling).

All I can say to this is that I am annoyed. I didn't do anything wrong and could've even recorded that. Sorry that I am a melee class, Blizzard. Really I'm sorry !

Ranged classes can be easymode here compared to stomp spam.

Edit: Also the hit zones aren't what they should be. I can use styles while my auto attacks are 'out of range'.

The stun from his stomp lasts long enough that you barely have enough time before he hits you with the next one, meaning you can't screw up even once. My advice is to complete this achievement on a ranged character. Even if you have to level one from the beginning, it'd be less stressful.

As a melee I found a strategy that worked well for me as a 492 iLevel Ret Pallie:
I started the fight in front of him and spent the entire remainder of the fight running counter-clockwise practically inside his hitbox. I never stopped moving except for the few times I almost lapped him. This allowed me to dodge 90% of his stomps. I got caught a few times, but made sure to focus on self heals and damage mitigation over offensive damage output. The fight took a while, but it was a one-shot.

When it did manage to hit me it went for about 200k damage (about half my health). Palies have a good variety of heals and oh @#$% buttons, but I could imagine a rogue just spamming feint, and keeping 'recupe' up, or whatever your melee class offers in terms of heals/mitigation.

What I keep having trouble and stopped trying for was those dam boulders. I have yet to find away to effectively avoid them. Course I tried running but the dam thing usually hits anyways. Anybody who has found a way pls post!

Easy kill as a Hunter - simply send your pet to tank him, stand at max range and fire away! He won't throw any boulders at you so you can just burn him down. (Should also work for warlocks)

I managed to kill one with my monk by staying within melee range and constantly run to his right foot so i can avoid his stomp. You can also get in alot of damage if you keep moving to his right foot during his frenzy then unload on him when he is stunned.

Mages can solo them without loosing single HP point.

1. Position yourself like this

mage ------------------------------- water elemental ----- cliffdweller
|------- (max frostbolt range) ---------|

2. Attack with your pet. Cliffdweller wil throw few Boulders at it. Heal your pet with frostbolts.

3. Cliffdweller will run toward your elemental and will start Stomping it. Do few step forwards to get Cliffdweller in frostbolt range.

mage ------------- water elemental - cliffdweller
|------- (max frostbolt range) ---------|

4. Nuke Cliffdweller. It won't attack you! It will be just stomping water elemental all the time doing marginal damage. Remember to heal your pet once in a while.

Very easy on my warrior.
Kind of melee kiting...but not really.
His stomp is a cast and has a very small radius.

All I did was run out every time he would cast it, then kite him for 10 seconds while he's in frenzy.
Rinse/repeat, super ez.

Starting combat with these guys in the right place is a great help so you don't have tigers pouncing at you! I took one right by the end of his patrol near the frogs.

1. Ran around him anti-clock wise (towards his right foot).
2.When he went into frenzy I just used Judgement spell to get the Long Arm of the Law speed up buff to avoid the Boulders radius damage.
3.After frenzy ends he stuns himself.

Just nuke him down like that, rinse and repeat. Was a pain the first 2-3 tries till I got better at positioning

I found out that I could kill these easily on my Enhancement Shaman by placing my Searing Totem some yards away from the Eroded Cliffdweller, not in melee range. It would often attempt to throw boulders at my Searing Totem, and the totem takes no damage from it at all. This happens a lot during the fight, even during Frenzy. Just run away from the cliffdweller to resummon your Searing Totem when it expires.

I don't mind being unable to solo these guys with most melee characters and it's just another one of those (many in Pandaria) circumstances where the effort and repair costs aren't worth the time and forget about loot because it's embarrassing. Generally I think they're like bad weather; avoid them if you can and deal with them if you can't using a minimum amount of engagement. After all, time is the only thing that money cannot buy more of.

Today one of my characters was attacked (unprovoked) by a Cliffdweller while I was dusting off a few of the tabbies. This is the third time and not on the same character, so it's not a class thing. The GM told me they were "looking into it" but I think the complexity of all the stuff on the Isle has reached the point where the designers have lost control of the unintended consequences. A death anywhere is a fee-based event, but not on the Isle, where you need a dozen assorted buffs just to pick a flower. Some of those, like the Crystal of Insanity, have a cooldown period, so a death has a time penalty, like bailing out of a dungeon.

Hate to say it because I love the Isle but this is a design flaw. How to deal with it? Just think how much better the whole world would be if the WOW designers also designed governments and the only thing we had to worry about was a timing lag.

It was mentioned in one of the more highly upvoted comments, but when people are saying to move to his right foot, it's actually his left foot, which is on the right if you're facing him.

If you look at the cliffdweller, he'll actually pick up one of his feet to do the stomp; you want to move away from the foot he's doing the stomp with.

How I beat these guys as warrior. Run at his Right foot facing forward, just inside his hitbox, use the outside like a lap coarse, repeat for entire fight.

I only got hit once or twice for all three. Rather simple once you get the hang of it.

Not responsible for lag related stompings.

There are only three of these mobs on the isle. However, they have a very fast re-spawn rate.

The droprate of Glinting Pile of Stone and the Oddly polished stone must have been bumped up, I got both from just 4 kills last night (from eroded cliffdweller, NOT the rare Golgalnarr)

For Going To Need A Bigger Bag, instead of farming the rare Golganarr, I can confirm that Glinting Pile of Stone does drop from Eroded Cliffdweller.
