A few tips for this phase (2), don't over stack healers. Can be done with 6 healers I advise 7. The dps groups are going to have their health spike over and over, the entire fight you may think you will die. Having good healers and knowing when to slow you're dps is vital. Mages, especially frost mages may want to consider putting 2pc t4 on to prevent pushback.

Shadowpriests should almost never cast Shadow Word: Death during this phase, for the following reason:

SW:D will deal X damage to EoD, and 2X damage to the priest. This means that if you happen to have a large crit (think deaden, or improved shadowbolt) of 5k or more, you risk one shotting yourself.

The reason SW:D does double damage to you is that EoD will hit you for half the damage you deal - even if it is to yourself. So, you take X/2 from the nuke, X from the kickback, and X/2 from the kickback, or double the damage you actually did to EoD.

Don't do what I did, and 1-shot yourself. =D

Hey, just a shot in the dark here, ok, she has a aura that makes you take half the damage you deal, so, if a mage, fire specced, does a fireball for 4k, then he takes 2k damage, now, can that be resisted? With fire resistance things? Just a question, please don't flame.

Probably not the most useful piece of knowledge to have for this fight, but if you disconnect halfway through phase 2, when you return you will have as much mana as when you d/c'ed.

Apparently she can be solo interrupted by a rogue using a kick->shiv->deadly throw (with pvp gloves) combination. This will murder that individual rogue's DPS, but would let all other rogues/dps warriors be able to focus on DPSing.

It's best to interrupt Deaden rather than Reflect it, unless you know for sure that you can handle the increase in the amount of damage the DPSers are going to take.

My guild has struggled slightly more on this boss than the others at this phase of BT (BB,Mother,Teron) simply because the interrupters slip up a tiny bit and its over. Weve had our greatest success when using only 2 rogues to kick alternating shocks. We have also had moderate success with 3 (more room for error) but our cleanest kill ever (every shock kicked and every deaden reflected) was with 2. Dont kick those deadens you guys ;)

yea Igotsoul is totally right, the most important part of this fight is timing, ALL of our interupts, last night on our first and 2nd attempts, even after a scolding, were never delivered (im a pally, not to blame)

I don't know if anybody has tried this since patch 3.1, but wouldn't Evocation allow a mage to recover mana after the aura drains it all and is done?
That could allow them to still take down the boss if it takes a little too long and they run out of mana. I'm not sure if there are any other spells that dot he same or if it will even work.
That would depend on the aura disappearing though and not being a permanent cap on mana though so maybe it doesn't work.

The Essence of Desire will come out after you have defeated Essence of Suffering and the adds after him.

The Essence of Dessire will immediately drain alot of your mana and will fear someone for 3 seconds using Spirit Shock every five seconds.

The more sick she gets the less mana you will have which well result in less DPS abilities and less healing.

When she is nearly dead she will Immediately drain all of your mana allowing no abilities to be used during the last amount of health which gives each player a high chance of dying before the last encounter with The Essence of Desire. The Main Tip on this boss is to use the Abilities that dont originally drain your mana quick through battles, because you may not get it back

Apparently you can LoS her Spirit Shock. If you have a pet or another member that can hide at the top of the ramp and by a pillar on the side of the room you should be able to pull it off. This strategy should also work for anyone with a pet.

However, if you're mana reliant this fight could prove to still yet be quite difficult as she drains mana.

Figured I'd post here as well, we successfully duo this boss every week, and here's a small strategy on her :)

The Essence of Desire is the real challenge here. She casts a spell called "Spirit Shock" that confuses you for 5 seconds and deals a fair amount of damage - it MUST be interrupted! The real kicker is when she successfully casts it not only are you put out of commission for 5 seconds, but she subsequently casts it faster with each successful cast. This means that a smooth run can quickly turn into a wipe that you have no way of stopping.

We've found the best ways to deal with this are:
I cast army of the dead, and she uses her fire elemental right at the start of her phase, then I cast raise dead and she uses her earth elemental at around 50%. The reason for doing his is if she does manage to slip some spirit shocks by you she will start casting it at other nearby targets, giving you a quick chance to recover. Blow everything you've got to get her down.

Also she has an aura that causes you damage as you deal damage, so be careful and heal yourself accordingly.

--This is done on a Blood DK and Elemental Shaman, so you'll have to adjust your strategy based on your classes.

I have been thinking whether this be soloable by a rogue ever since the 5.0.4 changes due to just one addition: Deadly Throw. Frankly Kick did get nerfed, so we are definitely relying on Deadly Throw to work sufficiently, and actually does lock out the cast of Spirit Shock for 6 seconds, otherwise it likely won't work: it has no cooldown but we will never generate 5 combo points every second.

To work around the damage of the Aura, use weapons with Mending and possibly one or even two Souldrinker, use Leeching Poison + glyphed Shiv on cooldown and use Recuperate on max cp & Kick for Spirit Shock whenever Recuperate falls off. Glyph of Shiv, Recupe, Kick. For talents, possibly Burst of Speed instead of Prep IF this works on Spirit Shock otherwise Prep for another Cloak.

Think I'll be giving this a go anytime soon just to see: if this somehow works, the recent addition of Leeching Poison might make it possible for rogues to solo the whole of BT.

EDIT: seems very unlikely this works. Wowhead didn't show that Deadly Throw in fact has a minimum range of 5yd, meaning for the interrupt and lockout to work, you have to be a 5yd minimal. Possibly, Burst of Speed might get you on a 5yd range, and perfect combo point management might get you somewhere, but it will be a wipe if only ONE Spirit Shock comes through.

As of patch 5.0.5 this is solo-able by a level 90 blood elf retribution paladin.

With Rebuke and Arcane Torrent you will have two interrupts at your disposal which, if done correctly, is all you will need.

Using the Holy Avenger and Eternal Flame talents, as well as Glyph of Templar's Verdict you can keep yourself alive through your dps cooldowns as you burn this boss down.

As soon as the essence is active blow all of your dps cooldowns at once to really put the hurt on this boss. Divine Protection and Devotion Aura will help keep you alive through the incoming shadow damage longer without the need to heal intensively.

The first Spirit Shock should happen when the boss is around 50-60% health -- don't miss it. Your cooldowns will be wearing off at this point which is when you need to start healing. DO NOT USE LAY ON HANDS. Keep widdling the boss down and interrupt the second spirit shock.
If a third one happens, bubble and kill the boss. If you used Lay on Hands, you'll be watching your character die while your forbearance debuff slowly runs out.

In the phase transition you'll have plenty of time to heal up and the final phase is easy! Happy hunting!

P.S. You do not need incredible gear to pull this off. This was done with 451 ilvl and almost nothing gemmed or enchanted. Gear will only make the fight go faster, perhaps even die under your defensive cooldown duration.

EDIT: With the changes in 5.1 Spirit Shock is not cast as frequently, making this a lot easier and allowing for the use of Lay on Hands and a more aggressive approach. (Also added links)

Attempted this solo as an arms warrior. Whatever you do, do not take second wind for this fight! You can't die, you can't attack it, you're just stuck... praying for some kind of enrage. Strongly suggest bringing in another.

****EDIT: This has been fixed in a 5.1 hotfix. He no longer casts the stun nearly as frequently, eliminating the need to even interrupt it if you don't want to. Just don't blow yourself up with the reflect! Happy hunting.****

Pretty easy hunter solo as of 5.0.5.

Level 90, ilvl 466, Beast Mastery. I used a spirit beast and had little trouble, but bringing pets with interrupts can buy you extra seconds during phase 2 when they matter most.

The burst capacity of BM is what trivializes this fight. I'm sure it's possible as Survival, but all you're doing is making a lot of unnecessary extra work for yourself. Finally, if you're using a Marksmanship spec in 5.0.x, go change it to BM or SV. Yes, you. Right now.

Phase 1: Essence of Suffering
- Pure tank & spank. MD to pet, kill, win.
- Note: DO NOT use any cooldowns. They're unnecessary here, and we want them all available for phase 2.

Transition:
- A couple multi-shots will thin out the crowd of spirit adds. Otherwise, sit tight.

Phase 2: Essence of Desire
- This phase is essentially the entirety of the fight. Phases 1 and 3 are merely intro and aftermath.
- Stay in the main Reliquary chamber. LOS'ing is no longer required.
- Dispelling Rune Shield is also unnecessary. You'll DPS through it in literally a second or two.
- When the Essence appears, cut loose with everything you've got: Bestial Wrath, Stampede, Lynx Rush, Dire Beast, agility potion, Serpent Sting, Rapid Fire. Note: DO NOT cast Readiness yet.
- You should be able to cycle your cooldowns once and have several seconds of effective Rapid Fire DPS before the boss starts casting Spirit Shock.
- Cast Silencing Shot to interrupt the Spirit Shock. *Now* use Readiness. Recast all cooldowns except Stampede, interrupt the next Spirit Shock (if necessary), and the boss should be dead before attempting a third cast.
- If you find yourself unable to down the boss in time to prevent a third cast, you can interrupt using a pet ability. This will buy you additional time; only a few seconds, but in some cases that might be all you need.

Transition:
- Again, multi-shots are effective against the spirit adds. Otherwise, sit tight again. You're home free.

Phase 3: Essence of Anger
- Tank & spank redux. MD to pet, kill, win, loot.
- Onward to the Den of Mortal Delights!

Soloed this boss as a level 90 elemental shaman with 468 item level. Food buff no flask. Summoned fire elemental (with primal elementalist talent) at the start then used bloodlust, potion of the jade serpent, ascendance, lifeblood and stormlash totem and just spammed lavaburst. I dropped grounding totem a few times but i dont know if it did anything. I made sure to wind shear her dissorient whenever I could or else she would just stun lock me to death.

Combat: 3/3/2/1/2/3 Leeching/Deadly

IL: 484

Consumables: Flask of the earth (1500 stam), Virmen's bite (4000 agility potion), Chun tian spring rolls (450 stamina food).

Glyphs used: Adrenaline rush (for burst), Shiv (very usefull since the boss increase all healing done by 100%, used on cd restores 35k~45k every 8 seconds wich will save you from killing yourself), last glyph i used is Cloak of shadows wich i would rather change for glyph of Kick/Recuperate (more usefull imo).

Strategy:

The first thing you want to do is keep Recuperate/Slice and dice UP (you won't need to refresh them since this phase can't last longer than 30 seconds.. otherwise you're dead :P) use Virmen's bite then start spamming Eviscarate carefully. After the first eviscerate you should be around half healt, Shiv the boss for some HP then continue to spam eviscerate until boss' healt reach ~500k, now it's time for Killing spree to finish the job (note that Spirit shock won't stop you from finishing a complete Killing spree but it's confusing effect will persist after it's cycle fades.. boss alive after that = fail :P).
It's very important to Killing spree in Yellow/Red Insight and with Virmen's bite buff active for being sure to succed.

Spirit shock avoiding tools are: Kick X2 (if glyphed), Cloak of shadows X2 (with Preparation), Killing spree (just for finish him off).

First Spirit shock should be kicked, after a few secs pop Cloak of shadows (5 seconds immunity), pop Preparation and be sure the last Cloak is about to expire (0 seconds buff) then pop it again, after all that boss should be max at 500k healt left.. pop Killing spree and it should be done.

IMO it's harder then Kael'thas solo in Cataclysm since most of us will shot themselves :P

Really easy.

Second Wind talent is essential and you'll want a healing pot for when you get really low in phase 2. Interrupt everything you can and use Bladestorm for it's immunity to stuns etc.

This boss has had a change so that the stun now has a much greater time between casts, I did not have to interupt one of them and I had no trouble with stun lock.

I soloed as a 481 SMF war after 2 attempts, through I think it would be easiest as a prot war. Second wind and defensive stance is essential. The glyph of bloodthirst I also found useful.

The trick now is to take it slow and steady on the 2nd head. My first attempt i blew everything and killed myself in 5 seconds flat. I used commanding shout, and just bloodthirst as well as auto attacks. Watch your debuffs, When you have the +100% dam done to you just stop attacks, including auto attacks. healing is no issue as during that phase you have +100% healing and as long as your not doing too much dam to it the bloodthirst and second wind easily out heal the reflected dam.

The 1st and 3rd heads are so easy they are a none issue

Just solo'd as a 90 Combat Rogue, i450 crafted PvP armor in most slots.

Possible if you know the fights, and if you know your class.

As everyone else mentioned, 1st and 3rd heads are a joke.

2nd head however requires effort. You MUST pay attention here.

You don't need a healer, however you DO need to heal.

Strat:

Burn through first boss.

Make sure you use recuperate, and make sure it is always up. 1 point, 5 points..anything. Keep it up or you WILL die.

Deadly and Leeching Posions

If you are an herbalist, Use Lifeblood as often as you can.

Focus less on burst damage and more on over all damage when on the second head. Auto-Attack is your friend.

Keep in mind, the more damage you do to the second head, you do to yourself.

Disengage and let Recuperate do its job when you are taking a beating. Less attacking means more healing/

Stamina Elixir, Stamina Scrolls, Healing Potions. Use them, but only during the 2nd head.

On the second head, dont use: Adrenaline Rush.

On the second head, use only when you have a decent amount of health: Killing Spree, Shadow Blades. You will kill yourself if you over do it.

On the second head: Take your time, BUT remember the enrage.

Burn through the 3rd head.

This strat is for Rogue's, but I'd imagine any healing class shouldn't have an issue. Warriors, Mages, Warlocks, Hunters: whatever healing related things you MAY have (I am unfamiliar with Warriors), if they work, use them. They can't hurt.

Hope this helps. Also, putting emphasis on recuperate should be the standard when soloing raids for Rogues. Healing tends to be necessary on bosses who can shield or reflect damage. Had to employ this technique on the first boss in black temple too.

Here's how I did it on my bear:

Phase 1 and 3, tank and spank as you will. For phase 2, unglyphed frenzied regeneration is your friend. Do not use any other rage-consuming ability (that is, no maul and no savage defense). Use enrage on cool down, keep fairy fire up, mangle and lacerate until you have 100 rage, then use frenzied regeneration. (Those are the only abilities you should use). You might not reach 100% health with the first application of FR; that's ok, just FR again.

I was in ilevel 475, but I think this technique could be used with a much lower level. I didn't interrupt, nor did I use any other health generating abilities. I didn't even have to use barkskin, and I think I dropped to maybe 50% health at the lowest, usually staying above 80%. Plus she dies fast!

Solo'd as a 460 ilvl Prot Warrior (~460K health). The hardest part of the fight was having the patience to see it through. Phase 1 and 3 are mindless cake walks. Phase 2 however was an entirely different story. Firs make sure you have Second wind or all bets are off. Second keep dpsing her (I did even when she bubbled just to build rage for shield barrier). I think it took about 4-5 minutes to get through phase 2 (compared to the other 2 phases it felt like an eternity). Just keep kicking the crap out of her and you'll triumph.

Phase 2 is easy if you focus on low dps and healing yourself.

This fight takes a while, but is actually fairly easy to solo as a warrior. As long as you have second wind, DPS her down until you have 35% health, then slow down your DPS so that you're outputting less than you're being healed for by SW. This will take a while, but allows you to take her down safely

Simple to solo as a BM hunter with a spirit beast. Setup was my level 85 hunter,Spirit Bond talent, glyphed disengage (Liberation), and pet on Ferocity.
Like many suggested here, u have to take things slow since any kind of burst will bring you to low hp. I ONLY used auto shots and Kill Commands, and my beast outheal most of the dmg while I helped using a few disengages. Finished with about 90% health, no pots and no special maneuvers.

On most of my toons, I have no problem with this boss. But I went in earlier on my prot paladin. I'm prot/holy, so I don't have a dps spec and I'm not geared very well (only about 474). I beat Essence of Suffering no problem, but when I got to Desire I had some trouble.

I don't do much damage and wasn't able to change my level 90 talents, so I was stuck with Holy Prism. Once I got to the point where she drains your mana, all I could really do was melee since all my attacks cost mana. I ended up having to run away and reset it. I tried again...this time taking Execution Sentence. It took a while but was able to beat her.

On my hunter, I specced spirit bond and decided to let my pet handle the 2nd boss by himself.

He did a fantastic job, and I just stood there throughout. Never dpsed the boss, so I never got spirit shock. Never dpsed the boss, so never took any reflect damage. Spirit bond healing kept pet at full health.

Is there any way to solo this as an enhancement shammy (ilvl 444)? I tried this earlier today, and my mana just seemed to decrease before I even got it to half health....any tips would be highly appreciated!

Apparently the confusion she used to chain-cast has now been reduced to a 15 sec cooldown. If you can interrupt it, and not kill yourself from reflected damage, you can solo her.

actually, even if you can't interrupt it. it's only 5 secs, so you have 10 secs uptime before she casts again

I just soloed this boss on my lvl 90 Arms Warrior. Basically the Essence of Desire is a long fight. All I did was auto attack and throw in my bleeds whenever my damage reduction abilities were off cooldown. I also ended up using Enraged Regeneration a few times when it was off cooldown and even a Master Healing Potion and Rallying Cry. Took a while but eventually she died before me- after she's done it's a cakewalk for the Essence of Anger.

The only other fight in Black Temple I even came close to dying aside from this was the Illidari Counsel mostly because I just stood and nuked with defensive cooldowns instead of dancing around AoE.

Just soloed it on my 90 arms warrior. Fight is easy, just deal a small amount of damage and then use impending victory. Wait for it to come off of CD and keep hitting it with IE. Make sure to watch your health through out the fight. Good luck.

I just tried this fight on my rogue on the Warlords PTR. One attack (even auto-attack) I make reflects and kills me with 1.4 million overkill. They might want to change that a bit.

As of 6.0.2, the reflected damage is a mere fraction of what is once was, now dealing small hundreds of damage instead of thousands to tens of thousands to a lvl 90.

Granted our health is overall lower, you'll probably only lose 25% of your health by the time the phase is over.

For those that are farming only this boss for whatever reason (pets, xmog, etc.):

You will have to kill High Warlord Naj'entus & Supremus to unlock two doors. Once that's done you should find yourself in The Sanctuary of Shadows. You'll want to go to the far end of the room toward your left. (If you're looking at the map, head towards the words Den of Mortal Delights.) If you've found your way to the correct level you should be in The Halls of Anguish floor. When you look at your map you should see two bosses noted on it - one in red almost directly behind you (Gurtogg Bloodboil) and one in purple with blue "rivers." Head to the boss at the bottom of the map (the purple one). You have arrived at your destination.

Overview – The Reliquary of Souls manifests three different Essences over the course of the encounter, each of which applies unique effects that must be handled differently.
First, the Essence of Suffering always strikes the nearest player and afflicts the raid with [Aura of Suffering].
Second, the Essence of Desire afflicts the raid with [Aura of Desire].
Finally, players must defeat the Essence of Anger which afflicts the raid with [Aura of Anger].
- Damage Dealers –
  Avoid heavily damaging yourself during [Aura of Desire].
  Be aware of your threat while[Seethe] is active.
- Healers –
  Watch your mana during [Aura of Suffering].
  Quickly dispel [Soul Drain].
  Regenerate Mana from the Enslaved Souls during the Intermission stage.
- Tanks –
  While the Essence of Desire is active, be careful of [Deaden].
  Using a Taunt effect while the Essence of Anger is active will cause [Seethe].
  Face the Essence of Anger away from allies to avoid damage from [Soul Scream].

Stage One: Essence of Suffering

Aura of Suffering – Healing effects reduced by 100%.
Regeneration effects reduced by 100%.
Armor reduced by 100%.
Fixate – Causes an enemy to become fixated, lasts 6.3 sec.
Frenzy – Physical damage dealt is increased by 25%.
Attack speed increased by 50%.
Soul Drain – Deals 732 damage every 3 sec.
Drains 110 mana every 3 sec.

Intermission: Release Enslaved Souls
