Good article for newcomers to the Player vs. Player scene who want their Legendary cloak.
Shame they didn't remove the pvp part of the quest yet... doubt they ever will though sadly. Just a pain in the ass to do.
Great guide, but as an alliance pve player this is still just X time of hating everything.
This is all good and great, and the guide is very helpful, but it still doesn't take away the fact that the PvP side of this quest chain is a silly idea. Forcing people to participate in something won't make more people enjoy that side of the game. It should also be noted that with the new 550 PvP gear, new players are going to get destroyed. It won't matter what strategy you use if you come up against a group with the 550 weapons, while your team sports a few players in PvE gear from SoO lfr...Blizzard really should have removed a large part of this quest chain by now. PvP, 3k valor, rep grind (ok that one is easy) and sigils from low level raids that give you irrelevant items like the weapon gems...
why just alliance? every time I go there as horde the alliance wins...
I don't know why people have such a hard time with it. Just keep queueing until you get a decent group, win. Based on BG win number, on pretty much every battlegroup, you've got a 50/50 shot at winning each time you get a pop. Really not all that bad.
They want lengendary cloak but cant beat other pkayers? Dosent sound very lengendary to me. Not to mention its not that hard and if you fail you can try again just by pushing one button. The only weird thing about this is thats mixing pve with pvp, but other than that its cool.
Personally, I think that Blizz could have solved this problem ages ago. What should have been done is make this a choice for players. They could either take the PVP side of the quest, or, they could choose to do something different (Epic Quest chain, more raiding, etc). I for one am not a big fan of PVP, but will do it if need be. But I do know other players that actually cannot do the PVP part of this quest simply because their comps cannot handle battleground situations, even low key ones. So for people who cannot afford a better computer system and such, this really isn't fair. Long story short, this part of the Legendary quest really should have been treated like the daily on Isle of Thunder... Either take the PVP choice, or go with the PVE.
OR...You can gather 9 other people and do war games. No need to be frustrated about being forced to pvp.Don't know why anyone isn't mentioning this.
Have to say as a pve player who really doesn't enjoy pvp, this was reasonably painless. Compared to the requirements for the Children's Week achieve - downright enjoyable.Temple of Kotmogu is a small simple compact space, mechanics are sort of everyone for themselves, goes really quick.Silvershard mines is bigger and more complex, but honestly not bad.
I'm someone who gets all anxious about PvP. At most, I go resto druid in AV to farm Honor for the war mounts. I delayed doing this part of the chain last year for *five months* because it was genuinely a scary thing to me. (I was still sort of new to WoW.) One day I decided to suck it up and try queuing for these two BGs. It honestly was not as terrible as I thought it would be. I tried to act like I knew what I was doing and Horde won both BGs. I was done in 30 minutes and wished LFR was that fast! If I didn't know what to do, I tried to be useful and CC'd everyone in sight and kept some friendly melee in front of me whenever possible. Seemed to work! It's really nice to have this guide; Kotmogu in particular seems like it would almost be fun to try again...
OR...You can gather 9 other people and do war games. No need to be frustrated about being forced to pvp.Don't know why anyone isn't mentioning this. This should be in the guide. No need to go crazy trying to slam your head against the wall in a BG. Ask Trade, look for 9 people to win trade with. Get all 10 people their win in both BGs in the time it would take you to win one solo.
this is by far the easiest part of the whole quest chain. I don't understand why people have so much trouble winning 2 bgs?
Shame they didn't remove the pvp part of the quest yet... doubt they ever will though sadly. Just a pain in the ass to do.I hate it. I have multiple 90's and I have the cloak on 4 out of 8 of them.... 3 of those who don't have it would have had it months ago were it not for the battleground portion of the quests... My Alliance battlegroup blows, and after suffering more than 10 losses apiece in either battleground I just gave up on my later toons. I don't mind challenging PvE content, but it's ridiculous that one should have to do PvP battlegrounds for a PvE legendary questline, especially since the Horde camps those two particular battlegrounds just to make life miserable for Alliance players trying to get their cloak. The least Blizzard could do would be to require two wins in any bg, that would solve the camping problem and make it easier to accomplish this admittedly distasteful part of the legendary chain.
I don't know why people have such a hard time with it. Just keep queueing until you get a decent group, win. Based on BG win number, on pretty much every battlegroup, you've got a 50/50 shot at winning each time you get a pop. Really not all that bad.You clearly aren't a part of my battlegroup. While doing this questline on my toons, I would get 20 losses in a row on Alliance side sometimes. At that point it becomes beyond frustrating and moves into the realm of infuriating. In a perfect world one would have a 50/50 shot at winning, but what happens a lot (at least in my battlegroup) is that the dominant Horde side has skilled players camping those two BG's, and the weaker Alliance side has a team full of non-PvP'ers, many in junk gear, trying to get their cloak, so the Alliance gets stomped repeatedly. I guess I didn't mind sucking it up at first since it was novel and exciting, but after awhile it gets very old. It would be nice if Blizzard just let you get the legendary cloak on your alts once you earn it on 2 or 3 of your toons, for those of us who have many 90's.... that, or just let us at least skip the pvp part.
Wowhead forgot the most important tip to complete these quests: Blizzard chose these 2 BGs for a reason beside their Pandaria relevance, they are 10v10. So get a group of 5 ppl, the best would be 3 dps and 2 healers, and queue as a group. In this way, the outcome of the battle is very likely to be yours. Thank me later
As a PVE player I did not enjoy this part of the questline (which I did three times), but it actually feels pretty good when you finally find a capable group and even get to contribute to the victory with your meager pvp skills. The frustrating part is the 10+ losses before that win.But even if you feel it's frustrating to try to win a couple BGs as a PvE player, just put yourself in the shoes of regular PvP players who are trying to get the achievements in Kotmogu and Silvershard (and the elusive Khan title) but have to deal with vastly undergeared and often underskilled people in their group. THAT must be very frustrating: just as you are hoping the group you're joining with 0 PvP gear will be able to eke out a victory, they are hoping the opposing faction's group has more undergeared and inexperienced people than their own group. And then there's children's week, where PvP players might as well take a vacation, because 4 of their BGs are going to be completely ruined.I think it's the PvP players who have more cause for gripe about those gratuitous (almost) mandatory PvP quest chains.
The guide should include what to do when all your teammates race right past the orbs to do... something... and when the only cart they're interested in is top. Because the only response I've figured out so far is to hope the other team finishes up quickly.
I personally dislike doing battlegrounds, especially 10v10s, but I was lucky enough to get it done in 4 matches on two characters. That was on the basis of what....getting lucky with your group? My first couple of matches was me losing <200-1600 on both games. Second match ended with us winning and me getting Powerball and I've Got the Power... it was that lopsided. Same with silvershard when the opposing team clearly had no idea what they were doing, and it definitely shows if I'm blowing them up in a matter of a few hits on my PvE gear (and they can't even dps through my spirit bond).I'm pretty sure that both PvP and PvE players are not having fun with this portion of the quest due to how it's designed, in the same sense as that one achievement for Children's week. While war games are a solution...it kinda defeats the whole purpose of the quest objective to begin with (in other words, its a poorly designed quest). If the idea was to get a group together and tackle this...then keep it consistent. Every other objectives can be done through LFR. You also have those working on alts or resubs that want to work on the legendary quest who don't necessarily have the same access to guilds or group of players to help with battlegrounds.

I lost 11 straight matches in the Mines but we finally got it on our 12th. So be very patient if you're alliance.
