"alternate travel methods" = teleports. So, instead of flying around, we will be teleporting around (and riding a short while)
I'm still not happy about the idea. I wish Blizzard would poll their members (via the login screen), to find out whether or not players really want to give up flying.I don't mind not getting flying until max-level. It's a goal, something to work towards, and it's a relief when you finally get flying. But to not ever have flying again, outside of old, old, old content?REALLY not happy with the idea.
I really like the spotlight on MC! It's very nice and I hope it helps people. Also, it is always a pleasure to hear Olivia's voice; yet another good Talk Azeroth episode!
I, for one, like the limiting of flying. (And I'm only active on PvE realms, so it's not for PvP opportunities.)I agree with the point that it makes the questing encounters more engaging when we can't just swoop in to quickly grab our objectives, but instead have to work through the territory for those goals. More challenges = more fun, imo.

Blizzard, since TBC, has allowed players the choice between mounting their flying mounts, or a ground mount. Why aren't you doing it now?If it's about the challenge, then you should be doing it now. The removal or inclusion of flying shouldn't make a difference in your playstyle. If it's about the removal of the temptation, why should other people who do enjoy being able to fly have to suffer?
Might be the first expansion I don't buy. Only storyline quests getting texts, no flight and garrisons are looking less and less appealing. All for fifty dollars? Eh.
They're shooting themselves in the rear by taking out flying. People who like engaging every mob between Points A and B already can. And those of us who don't, we don't have to. That's how it should be. It allows everyone the option to play as they enjoy, which Blizz seems to have forgotten is what makes people keep paying them. Honestly, I think they had the perfect balance in Wrath. Limit the player's first character to being grounded, then let the alts fly if the player wishes. Content can get repetitious when altaholics start leveling their collection, and being able to fly negates that some. I don't buy the exploration excuse. Exploration can be done just as well from the air as from the ground, or in a combination of both. And, honestly, if a character doesn't want to fight a group of mobs just to see what's in that corner over there or to get that Green Tea Leaf, they really shouldn't have to. It's just a time sink, and WoW already has a ton of those.Blizz is saying "Enjoy the game the way we want you to enjoy it or go sit on a tack." And a lot of their white knighters seem to forget that they don't have the only way to enjoy the game or be engaged by content. Different people like different things...No one person has the only right way. That should be respected, not insulted.
One thing missing from the MC article are the profession schematics that drop there, there are a few engineering ones that make some nice looking items for transmog purposes for example
They could take some of the sting out of this by removing the summon limitation on mounts that only function in flying zones. There are plenty of hybrids that can be called in both types of zones, so why not remove the restriction altogether? Sure, some won't look great, but players who can't summon that new Heavenly Serpent of Pureblood Fire Hawk as they roam new content are taking a hit (along with druids, who basically have an entire form disabled for the next 2+ years).EDIT: Cory Stockton has confirmed that nearly all flying mounts will be useable as ground mounts. Kind of moots my comment. :)
@PragmaticSoul;What are you talking about? Flying isn't going away, it's being temp delayed. It's a great idea and allows players to further immerse themselves in the game -- in the beginning (Obviously end content it would be unwise.) But with this said, not anywhere does it mention flying being removed permanently.
I don't mind not flying until max level, like in previous expansions. It's just removing it completely for WoD is kind of a bummer. Especially in regards to alts who have done the content a dozen times before.
Who put idiots in charge at Blizzard? I guess the talent left after Wrath and we're dealing with the game direction by 2nd and 3rd string talents. Too much to complain about with this upcoming expansion. They'll be down to enough subs in no time and end up merging all realms with the garbage they think is better for the gamer. Get your refund folks!
I'm so pleased with the no flying thing! I know I'll probably grunt a little when fighting mobs that I could have flew past, but seeing the world and not just flying over it will be amazing. It was doable in vanilla, where the world was massive compared to Outland, so it'll be doable now. Also, welcome back world pvp!
I like the no flying. i hate just flying to the quest pew pew then fly back ... goes to quick and there is no fun in it ..
For everyone complaining about not being able to fly (for the time being, not FOREVER), if THIS is what sends you packing, have a nice day. This is far from a "game-breaking" change. It means you can't fly at the end of the first week when you hit cap. Deal with it. It's not THAT big of a deal.Everyone complains that "such and such was better back in Vanilla", and "flying ruined the game". Guess what? You got your wish. No flight for the time being in the new content, back on the ground like Vanilla. You got what you wanted. But again, that appeased some people, and annoyed others. Even with the current 7mil+ subs, you will NOT make a decision that is unanimously supported. It just doesn't happen.Personally, I look forward to it. Should be fun.
Not having flying available right away is fine with me.But, if they remove flying all together would piss me off for sure.Being able to fly in WoW made me appreciate the world even more than I did before.First experiencing zones from the ground then later experience them from a whole new angle with flying.First thing I did when we could fly in Azeroth, was to do just that. Was really nice to experience the old world all over again, from a different perspective.
I keep seeing people say "This is just temporary," but this response by Bashiok seems to make it pretty clear that there will be no flying because questing will continue even after reaching level cap. If you are really set on flying, I wouldn't hold my breath.I'm good either way. I'll play. But, I think that they are missing out on the opportunity to advance some really cool world building using the weather, weaponized, or magical effects that they specifically wanted to avoid. I am looking forward to see how this plays out either way.
I'd still prefer to be able to fly because that's how I enjoy seeing the sights, but more efficient flight paths would be a great thing, especially if they end up redoing every flight path in the game at some point to make them less... scenic route-y.

But with this said, not anywhere does it mention flying being removed permanently. It might allow *you* to further immerse yourself in the game, and more power to you. But please refrain from claiming it does so for everyone because that's simply not true. Not everyone has the same preferences as you do.
