As soon as I find some time (monday at the latest) I will bring back green comments and I will also make changes to the ordering system. There will be three ways to order it:
The only thing I like about the new system is the prominence of the vote and rating. Everything else I believe is terrible don't really like (terrible was too strong of a word). Limiting replies to comments limits the community's ability to discuss specific comments. Now to give an in-depth reply to a question or statement I will need to create a separate comment outside of the original comment which will quickly make this all very confusing.A solution to the comments might be to add a "subject" or "synopsis" heading that's limited to 600 characters, but have a "read more" link to expand the comment so we can continue to discuss comments in-depth while at the same time reducing clutter. Also noticed no delete button...where did that go? I have sufficient permissions to do it, but can't find it...that was useful.
I went ahead and posted replies to the threads you linked in a previous post, Koper.Let me also say...WHAT THE HECK! As one of the few who actually saw the test thread and started giving feedback, that was such an insanely short test time to get some actual feedback on this before releasing it.That feature where you announce new things at the top of every page on wowhead (you use it for major blogs like contests and content and holidays) would've been great to invite people to come check out the new comment system. I woke up this afternoon with this idea and was coming to suggest it when I see that it's actually already been 'released.' O.OI barely found the feedback thread yesterday because I came to post a report about the weight stats not working and happened to notice it.Please consider reverting to the old system and running a much longer testing/feedback period, like at least a week for crying out loud. Two days? Really? Although if you choose not to, I understand, it's kind of a little late now. -.-It really feels like you're 'forcing a beta test' on people by doing it this way. -.- And that's said by someone who actually likes most of this new system. Now to reply to some of the stuff you said in the last post of the test thread:
Thortok2000 you are right it shouldn't have been released so soon. There were other factors at play though which I can't discuss here, but if I could back I would wait a little longer. Oh well, lesson for the future.. This is the first time we did a public testing but we plan to do more in any case for major features, and I'll make sure those will last longer.
I hate how the new system is organized, I liked having my comment rating nice and high, now it's split into 2. I don't care whether or not the comments are "replies" or not, why can't I have them all summed together? It was nice and organized that way, now I have to nitpick between everything. I would also prefer not to see the comments of mine I have deleted, I deleted them because they weren't any good or didn't have relevant information. And why change the order of which they are shown? I don't want to see all the comments that were posted first because chances are they are extremely outdated or don't have the information I need. Having all the "good" ones together meant I could find what I needed easily, now I'll have to read through pages of potential crap. The arrow thing is a nice change though I will give it that. And having reputation necessary to vote also is great.Seems all very unnecessary to be honest, but maybe that's just me.
That's what he said.
I'm all for making the comments sections less cluttered!
dramatically changing any UI is always hard, but i think that you guys did a really good job with the new comment system. it will take time for people to get used to the change, but in general it makes it much easier to find relevant information. koper, thanks for the hard work and for listening and responding to the userbase.
I'd have to say, we should still be able to up or down vote comment replies.
I miss the old style. Something about the new comments makes me strain more to read them, giving me a headache. It also doesn't scroll smoothly anymore. It's laggier. Much like why I don't visit Wowhead News. Except that's an even bigger, more bloated mess. That brings my browser to a crawl. This chance feels unnecessary, honestly.
My current rep is over 1k even but can't vote etc so wth is going on didn't see that kinda stuff stated.
I think this change is superb, as the information provided on this site fits with the whole StackExchange model quite well. However, I think there's a major problem with migration and the fact that "replies" to comments were not well moderated previously. Many if not all articles will now have a huge number of "replies" down at the bottom (or even in the middle) based on their own reviews. Maybe this is a silly question, but: Since the site is mostly self-moderated by the users, are we to downrate those old comments that should have been replies in attempt to "purge" them from cluttering up the top of the list? Or shall we report them to be turned into "replies of replies" as they should have been?
While some are mourning the loss of their Green Comments, I detested having to scroll-click-scroll-click through pages and pages of comments just to find that green text. And it would just be unnecessary, with the ability to show top comments first. My only "gripe" would be the inability to downrate the short replies. One of the key points that pushed for this change was:
