I don't think that the concept of a cap is bad design. It's just an arbitrary number put in to prevent folks from grinding guild rep in two days. My issue with the system is that it is too limiting. While you're leveling and questing, guild experience and reputation is very solid. I was always capping out on my path from 80-85 and am still #3 contributor overall for my guild. But I'm finding that once you're at the level cap it is almost impossible to get guild rep at a pace that doesn't include you tearing your hair out. It has taken me almost 2 weeks to go from half way honored to 2/3 honored and that is doing close to 20 dailies a day, along with a guild BG and heroic group. Supposedly raiding in a guild group gives you experience, but with 12 possible bosses a week, I really don't see the process getting much better. Which is unfortunate, because I think it's a decent idea to reward those who put a lot into the game and focus on helping the guild.
I'm in guild with few of my friends (around 8). We just reached guild lvl 6. Everyone has their alts within our guild.I have two 85s at the moment and i've been doing dailies (25 daily) + some guildruns in heroics with my main and the week my second char reached 85 both of my chars had guild xp capped which I find kinda dissapointing. I have all the ten chars within guild but I don't want to change to another character just because one getting guild xp capped. It just feels stupid to start leveling some lvl 30 shaman just to get our guild leveling, many of those low level characters are just lifetime projects and I'm kinda waiting to get cloaks and helms to get things done.I'm throwing in the air that meaby there could be two caps for each player, one for dailies and one for dungeons/raids. I have a feeling that leveling a 80 to 85 is the best way of getting guild xp for guild. Guess it encourages ppl to level up their alts but knowing that there are "only" few levels to get the helms or cloaks is just so big turn off..I'm not too worried about my guild reputations cos there aren't too many perks to get and my main is already 3,5k to revered. And there are still some dailies to do to get other reputations to exalted!

In my opinion, there should be a system that looks at the pattern at what the guild does, and sets a daily and weekly quest goal, which, when achieved, awards all participating members in the quest *something* and Guild Reputation/Experience, mostly, all the other items would be obtained by actually doing it, because you'd get the stuff that comes with it, like for PvP and honor, what do you guys think? :)
Is the gm talking about guild rank or guild reputation? blah.My problem with reputation is that I leveled from 1 to 70 in my guild and just to make it to friendly (1 rep per quest under lvl60 and 2-4 rep 60-70(at appropriate level)). But my lvl 85 did it in one day (roughly 16-19 rep per quest). While blizzard has always given more brownie points for playing "at lvl of xpac" The current implementation's just messy.Going back to my opening question, I'm not really looking forward to the 3/5, 4/5, 5/5 reputation changes. What prerogative will I have to be that 5th man? Need a tank? A healer? This will just reinforce me not going outside for guild groups for that extra reputation/rank. (In theory it would be good for your reputation AND your guilds to go outside of the guild and offering help.)
I don't mind the 12 weeks to exalted time-line so much, I just want more ways for me to reach that cap. Farming all the flasks and food for a raid team for years should freaking count for something, so should mining ores for hours to help the appointed guild blacksmith and jc level, those things were done solo, but they directly benefited the guild...yet you could get more rep doing a solo daily quest, how does that add up?
Guild rep and Guild XP should be based on ALL of your achievements and quests to date.As it currently stands, your main, with "Long, Strange Trip", and "Loremaster", has a lower guild rep then someone who just started at Cata launch with a first level character, and leveled up to 85.Conversely, if your guild kicks you, they should get a guild XP deficit, and not level further until they make it up with work on their part, or by recruiting someone just as distinguished.
I started Cataclysm just a few days ago due to being out of the country on a military deployment. When I got back I eagerly loaded the game up and worked my ass off to hit 85 so I could start to get back into raiding. So I worked my way through all the new zones, gathering all the quests as I went, and hit 85 after 2 days. On the 3rd day I was even called in as a late replacement for a raider in BoT. Yet when I looked at my Guild Rep bar I'd just barely made it into friendly, and it didn't move for two days despite completing yet more quests, dungeons etc.The theory of "put a cap on it and it'll force people to slow down" just isn't realistic. In fact it goes against the stated intent of the whole guild rep system - the people who are doing more are losing out on more. What benefits my guild more? Me dragging out the levelling/gearing process over a number of weeks, during which I am unavailable? Or if I do what benefits the guild, it penalises me as the rep for all those quests and dungeons has just disappeared off into the ether.I am loving Cataclysm so far - the quality of the zone design, the writing, the quest lines... all great. But this much vaunted Guild Rep system has left an extremely sour taste in my mouth. What a disappointment.
