When trying to upgrade, my Wowhead account keeps coming up with the same name as my Zam one, as the have different names. What do I do?
I'm not sure what to think, actually. On one hand, having features on a site I enjoy as much as WoWHead that I have to pay for is rather annoying. On the other hand, anything I can do to support this site is a good thing ^_^However, the features that WoWHead Premium gives you, in my opinion, isn't worth the money just yet. The Ads don't bother me, and you can just click the little "page extension" arrow thingy to get rid of the Ads anyway. So my mind isn't made up whether I will buy a subscription or not. For now, it's no--I simply don't post enough to make it worthwhile to me. But I'll keep my eyes open for future updates, and possibly change me decision then.A word of advice, though: Don't do what Curse Gaming did, and disable features if you don't pay for them. I know you said in your post that you weren't planning on doing anything of the sort, but...just don't change that fact =) WoWHead is a fantastic website that I would love to support...but not if I'm forced to support it. I like being asked for contributions, not told to contribute ^_^Cheers!
"I have to say, no no no no, since this small step is a slippery slope..."You know the "slippery slope" argument is considered a weak one, right? These people need to have an income to keep this site up. I don't begrudge them that, even though i can't personally afford to help right now.
I noticed the way you put "existing" features in the disclaimer. So it begs the question, What about future ones? Do you plan on releasing future premium only features? It seems worded in a way that doesn't completely perclude the possibility. If not I have nothing against this change, though I won't be lining up to sign up for it.
Neat. Great way to let people support the site. Don't know if I'm quite ready to pay up myself, though :P
I wouldn't get the premium for the features... none of them are appealing at all. The ads are removed easily and I don't really ever post on the forums, so icons don't matter... and then if I wanted to make a long comment I would just split it into two... furthermore, these "benefits" are timed, so it's not like spending the money is all that worth it...If anything, I would give the money to support wowhead, but it's not like they don't already make money off of the site, and this isn't a donation, it's a way for them to make money...
Malgayne was up for his late-night glass of warm milk when his wowhead-sense started tingling, he dashed to his computer to find wowhead in shambles...And...scene.
I thought this was a community fueled by love and addiction for Warcraft? I am thoroughly disappointed in Wowhead.
As you guys can see, this is a very difficult line we're walking. A number of people have complained that the features we offer here aren't significant enough to be worth the money. Another group has complained that we're going to start charging money for ANY feature that's worthwhile. Obviously it's very difficult to keep both groups happy. :)The line about "We have no intention of charging you for existing features" sounds a little ominous, so let me clarify: We are committed to continuing to bring you your content for free. If something horrible happens and it comes down to a choice between charging for the site or just straight up shutting it down, then yeah—we're going to consider charging for the site. Aside from that, though, we LIKE being a free site. We're trying to give a little extra back to those people who want to support the site, without detracting from the experience for the users who can't afford it.
omg i wish i could get this D:
