This weapon has a natural white glow effect, which isn't overwritten by enchants. This means Mongoose, Berserking etc. will not be directly visible.

Also, I've noticed that when spamming Fan of Knives, each hit counts as a hit with the weapon, giving the possibilty of a proc. Considering it's been proven there is no internal Cooldown, this weapon is deadly for AoEing as a Rogue, as it could be tossing out Shadowbolts at an amazing rate. Definitely something you could keep macro'd to your off-hand to AoE during trash pulls if you have a better MH. Irrelevant now that FoK uses equipped throwing weapon instead.

I am seeing a proc rate of 2~ times per minute and spell power does not seem to affect the damage (enhancement shaman). This is on a target dummy. No word yet if curses, etc affect the damage in a raid setting.

Anyone sim it yet vs. the axe from Anub'arak?

This weapon is just plain awesome for DK's.
Proc should profit from black ice and the fact that DK's spells deal 2x damage, it should crit around 4k. (Havent tested this yet, but it should basically.)
Not to mention the 2.7 attack speed.

As posted for the ilvl 232 version of this weapon, the shadow bolt has a suspected 5% proc chance and is confirmed to not have any internal cooldown.

Tested this today. The shadow bolt it casts is not affected by a deathknight's passive Runic Focus(http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=61455), but it does seem to get a boost from Black Ice(http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=49664)

I got this last night on my enhancement shaman and i'm clearly not impressed. I upgraded 1 Alder's Battlestars to this and only got about a 112 overall dps increase which seems very small from the item lvs. I'm pretty sure that if you can get the axe off of Anub'arak 25 will greatly out perform this weapon as enhancement, Maybe even the one from Anub'arak 10 would come close to this weapon if not superior.

You're right, this weapon really isn't incredible. From what I've read, chance on hit effects were really hard to balance (which is why they're so rare) and as a result they tend to be pretty underpowered. The reason this weapon is good is because Onyxia is a somewhat new (people don't demand that you have the achievement yet) and very easy raid for a competent group, even if they're a bit undergeared.

So this weapon isn't as good as most other slow iLvL 245s and might be a downgrade from some 232s, but it is one of the most accessible to non-raiders.

Edit -- I'm just talking about the weapon here, not your comments about dual wield. Dual wield (frost or unholy) has been a viable and actually very strong spec since patch 3.2, assuming you gear correctly for it (hit and expertise take a much higher priority than for 2H blood for example).

The end damage is rediculusly high so a combat rogue would really benefit from this if he would have still crappy daggers or any other weapon even with the stats loss.

Just looted it after all and the hack and slash talents seems really imba on this since a second hit with that would be a killer.

Im really sketching on how as a weapon it would compare to an enhance shaman from the comments it doesnt stack with spell power and it clearly has no stats to benefit from worth it? All in all i think i might dump this weapon for enhance shamans in the 226-232 item level bracket : /

The weapon is 2.7s which for enhancement Shamans is exceptionally nice, that said it will probably be outperformed by another ilvl245 2.6s weapon but only slighty. I got two of them and not spending gp on the other drops until I see a 258. Overall a good weapon lack of stamina is somewhat bad seeing the damage upgrade isn't stupid.

Its a chance on hit, with no internal cooldown apparently so if you have 2, its still a 5% proc rate but your hitting twice as many times so you will get twice the procs.

To give a slightly different perspective on this weapon, the Shadow Bolt proc is right about the same as Necrosis in damage on longer fights ( tested just over 10 min (606 seconds) on a Boss dummy with auto attacks ). So you could say the proc is equivalent to an extra talent point.. Your milage may vary with raid buffs.

As Enhancement shaman, this, the shadow bolt, is usual in the bracket of ~0.8-1.6% of my total damage done to any boss.

I'm a combat rogue and this thing just dropped off 25 ONY. Nobody wanted it so I took it to experiment with.
Rogues, seriously do not waste DKP on this item in it's current form. It accounted for 1.7% of the overall damage I was doing. The proc rate is typically crap, and simply cannot stand up to the loss of whatever points you gave up with your other weapon, like AGI and such. I'm throwing mine in the bank just in case they tweak it, but yeah, fail axe.

Deathknights might want to give it a look, I dunno.

I'm a bit confused. How can a pre-tbc boss drop a 196,5 one-handed dps weapon? That's even more than sulfuras, and this one is one-handed!

I too have seen Rawr tell me this is a BiS frost DK weapon. Have been trying to get my hands on one for 2 weeks so far but no luck. Would love to hear some other opinions on this? not much of a theorycrafter myself but it just dosent seem right.

I have this weapon on my DW Frost DK along with Tempered Vis'Kag the Bloodletter and my DK's Gearscore according to WoW-Heroes is 2600 and I can easily pull 7kdps.Ever since picking up this weapon my dps has gone through the roof. Almost every single DW DK that I come across see's it on me and flips out over it, they are all telling me that apparently its better than the 288 Lich King Heroic mode axe.....I can say that its putting out an amazing amount of dps for me considering that my gear score is pretty low. Got into a ICC25 man raid even though my GS was 200 less than what they wanted and I was staying 3rd on the meter. after Saurfang I told them my GS was only 2600 after they had a chance to see I could most definitely hold my own and everyone was shocked how much dps I was doing and proved that skill > GS.

I have some information as to why Rawr lists this as BiS for several specs. Rawr has an incorrect number for the proc chance. Rawr comes with 9% as the proc chance in the item database, while the true proc chance is very close to 5%. The item is still very good, but not better than Lich King loot (just close.)

To see more accurate information on this item's value, you can manually edit the item database. To do this, right-click the item in the list in Rawr, and choose "Edit..." In the Special Effects box, hit the Edit button. Change the Chance box to 5.00 instead of 9.00. Hit OK on all the windows, and look at your new numbers.

TLDR; the weapon is exceptional due to its 2.7 speed, but should still be replaced by Lich King loot.

While this weapon is without doubt terrific for Frost DK's, I don't believe it's BiS. Rawr is notorious for being bad with regards to Frost DK's, and the proc chance is off.

After using it for months (I still have it) I can say that it generally ends up with about 1 proc per minute, maybe less. In my ICC25 kit, spec'ed as Frost and with all raid debuffs and such up, the proc ("Shadow Bolt") will hit for roughly 3k and crit for about 4.5k.

It ends up being around 1% of my total DPS on a straight up fight, the bottom of the barrel besides IT and PS (since I use GoDisease) and Razorfrost - nowhere near the orgasmic damage people are reporting with lower gear levels.

As soon as another Bloodvenom Blade drops (curse you Saurfang) I'll be replacing it.

this or Tempered Vis'kag the Bloodletter are very good options for any fury warriors planning on changing back to 1h weps in Cata, if you can get your hands on a pair.
