if you're tanking, then it should be fast weapon + shield, ask in the warrior forums for more info

I'm a little confused by your original post; are you using a 2H (two-handed) weapon or are you using 2x one-handed weapons?
2H means two-handed, a large heavy weapon.
Dual wield means using a one-handed weapon in both your left & right hand.
-----
Cruel Barb isn't that great for tanking, use the axe
Smite's Reaver
(from the big, fat cow dude) instead. Also, put a shield in your off hand when tanking.

And thanks for the advice, but I'm going to 2H dual wield sword tank.
I was going to be sword and shield but I changed my mind =)
Good luck with that.
Take the time to read & learn about traditional warrior play before attempting something abnormal with 4 other people's valuable time. Just my opinion, of course.
Read the stickies at the top of the page & stop trying to be a death knight. Use a shield or prepare to be criticized or have trouble in groups (if not now when newbies are abound, later when players are better experienced).

dual wield and 2h tanks are an oxymoron. They dont exist. A tank uses a 1h and a shield. If you dont, then your not a tank, your DPS.
Now if you have like a hybrid spec, cause you wanna DPS sometimes and tank sometimes, and your question is about gear, you should have 2 sets of gear. DPS gear and tanking gear. You cant really use one set of gear for both.

I'm not being sarcastic, but what do you mean ask in the warrior forums? Isn't this the warrior forum?
It was in the general forum when you asked this question
did you seriously forget where you posted this?

I don't think its a big deal at level 20 honestly. At that point, everyone has the mindset of "zomg must do moar dmgz", so putting a shield on to tank with is more of a hinderance. Yes, you wont take as much damage, but you're going to be severely starved of rage. So realistically, DW tanking isn't that bad of an idea at that point as long as you know your limits of the number of mobs you can have on you. Of course, if you do start taking too much damage there is always the ability to just throw on a shield in the middle of combat.
Anyway, as for an OH weapon to go with the Cruel Barb I'd probably go with a Thief's Blade (also from Deadmines) or some random green thats at your level.

This is untrue. I have personally tested this with complete newbies since 2.3.2.
Stop using Rend & you'll have plenty of rage to hold aggro.

The warrior quest will net you a shield. Why not use it? Why should I have to play with you as the tank when you don't know what you're doing at level 36? That's 1/3 the way to 70.
=/
btw, I don't care if you wanna tank in zerker, but you better know how to tank with a shield first. It's simple for me: don't have a shield? I don't group with you (if you're supposed to be the tank). In-game, you'll get much of the same response.

Until you hit 40ish, instances really don't require a true tank. I've lost track of the number of times where the group I've gone to SM with has had a hunter/warlock pet tank. Many of these times have been me healing on my mediocre druid and its not difficult at all. 36 may be halfway to 70, but how often do you actually see a prot warrior at 36? 90% of warriors at that level are going to be arms or fury anyway. Don't treat all these lowbie instances as if they're a 70 25-man, they're not.

I'm with arideni on this one. If you dont have a shield and are the tank, i dont care what level you are or what instance were doing, i'm not gunna group with you. Do it right or dont do it at all.

That's no excuse not to carry a shield.

Using a shield doesn't mean you're Protection & I don't believe anyone said to spec Protection with these lower level dungeons in mind.
You're making excuses for warriors to level without learning how to tank & I'm sure many of us have suffered a PUG experience because of a noob warrior. I really don't see the point you're trying to make here - learning early to prevent misconception at later levels is bad?
We should encourage & advise our young warriors instead of telling them to procrastinate for level 70. When I said I wouldn't group with them without a shield or knowledge of the class, it was indiscriminate - I won't group with you like that at level 20 & I won't at level 70, either.
These thoughts are commonly referenced as "l2p."
I don't want to be your guinea pig when you finally do make a decision.
My thoughts have been expressed & I see no reason for me to continue in this thread.

Stop asking for advice if you're not going to take it. You sound like an ignorant person.
Arideni is correct. All Warriors, regardless of level, should have a shield. And, when they tank, they should be using it. Demoralizing Shout and Thunderclap do more than enough to hold aggression while you're focusing on the target that your DPS is focusing on.
Use raid icons to help DPS when swapping from mob to mob.
Tanking from L18 (Deadmines) to L70, with a shield, is both smart and possible. Stop being ignorant.

There are mobs that are better to DW tank on to get rage, but don't do it if you haven't played a warrior that much (meaning have been 70 a while). An example are those casters on the way to the bird akil'zon in ZA. they don't hit me enough to give me rage so might as well DW and hold aggro. You just have to be aware and put a shield back on when you need it.
level 20 is like 10 hours of game play or so, so just learn to use a sheild an keep it on the whole time. It is a lot safer if you aren't that experienced as a warrior. If you are making a 2nd warrior for some reason, try whatever you want.
