I believe for bank tabs the progression is 100g, 250g, 500g, 1000g, 2500g, 5000g. So seeing two or maybe three tabs is fairly common among bank characters. While it's no obscene amount of money to have saved, who can sneeze at free stuff unless the guild name is really awful/offensive? I wouldn't want my bank alt associated with my main in any way so it shouldn't matter what the guild name is unless you simply must be clever with it. Good on you, I say. :)

I nabbed a guild named "Pink Tabard" for 50g. 3 tabs, one tab packed with
Guild Tabards
and a few things I sold on the AH.
Now all three tabs are packed with Runecloth for my alts' reputations.

I have a similar story for it like yours which happened not long ago. I've got two accounts which was a nice thing to have, my bank alt on my second and my main on the primary.
I was in a guild on my main which was pretty prospect, we did large scale raiding during TBC and people were kind and giving enough to donate to the guild bank.
To cut the story short, the guild went through some turmoil. There were only a few officers and a guild master. Two of the officers decided to create their own guild and split with about 20 members that they had recruited without telling the guild leader who was buisy with his real life during that period. I wasn't invited and was stuck left in the guild with the guild leader, a few other members and some alts.
A week later the GM came back online to find the guild virtually deserted. We spoke briefly about it and why he was absent and it turned out his GF was pregnant and he had to quit WoW. We came to an agreement that he'd turn over the guild to me and do whatever I could to salvage it.
A few days later the last members of the guild left and I decided I'd turn it over to my bank alt on my second account.
So my bank alt presently holds 27.6k gold, 5 bank tabs with potions, flasks, elixirs and various other tradegoods along with many BoE epics and blues. I still haven't figured out what I should do with all of this.

A couple months ago I was on one of my several unguilded mules when I saw someone offering a guild in Trade. I let it slide.
Four hours later he was still trying to get rid of it. Finally I did a /who on him and found I really liked the name - it made me laugh. I told him that, and 60 seconds later I was the proud owner of a guild with one bank tab, for free.
Last week I saw someone also in chat trying to get rid of a decently named guild. One tab, one thousand gold. Either someone talked him down, or he just disbanded it, because he was in a new guild 5 minutes later.
If I saw another guild go up on the block, so to speak, for a decent price, I'd probably grab another.

I've bought 3 guilds for there bank tabs already, all of which had three or more tabs. I think the last one was Doom Hammer which I paid like $700g for? I dunno.. but it came with 4 tabs so i was pretty stoked! I've upgraded all of them to 6 tabs since buying, so now I have 4 alt guilds all together with 6 tabs each! I'm never gonna run out'a space.. :P

So mail to:Stumpjumer ... Just kidding...
Seriously. I would send an in game message to the previous owner of the guild to make sure he really isnt going to play, But is sounds like you two came to an understanding - so... you did what you could...
Sell off what you dont need/want - or make some random stranger Really happy... I give away stuff to strangers all the time - especially if i come across a good deal or something like that.. .I am known for randomly mailing cool people I see in chat as well...
I have and will always have a bank alt - my favorite part of the game sometimes.. <Guild of Bankers> is my name. I actually started it hoping I could put together a bunch of different bank alt's out there and we could share tips and tricks in Gchat. we could also make sure we were "pricing" things and also have "Sales" and deals in trade chat - but that's a hard thing to promote over /1.

Yep, the best way to get spare bank space is to keep an eye out for "Selling/giving away guild."
I never ran into anyone flat out stupid enough to give away a guild with bank tabs. I have bought a guild for 150 g with 2 tabs, and had a guild given to me. The name is Mamas Apple Pie and well, I am a mama. I had to have it for my bank, I bought the bank tabs and it's full of leather and ore right now for my alts to eventually powerlevel professions.
Bank tabs arent that much (100g-250g-500g)
So if someone wants to get rid of a guild its not that much of a loss for them jsut to give it away for free.
Me and my brother started a guild for our alts and payed for the first tab. One day my brother got board and just randomly started to invite anyone without a guild. Now we have 15-20 active members who donate money/items to the bank. We have 3 tabs and around 2kg.
Now we just sit back and let the members take/drop off what the need and everyone is happy.
