Other than the new shadowmeld, which you don't have access to as a paladin, the best racial in the game is every man for himself (way to go Blizzard with the sexism). That makes human the best option. Every man for himself helps in so many encounters in pve that it is almost always on cool down when you still need it.

I'm afraid Avalonia is correct about EMfH (although I think he means racism :) ). It's a surprisingly useful racial even in PvE - although I still quite regret not going dwarf with my paladin. At 80 you CAN compensate for racials like fx EMfH with PvP trinket - race is something you can't change and the most important thing is that you're happy with your character.
If you intend to go prot, I can heartily recommend dwarf.

I'm going to have to argue for Blood Elf for prot pally. A tank who has an AOE Silence? amg pulls are easy for instances.
But let's not also forget the human racial Diplomacy, which is arguably one of the most useful racials in the game period. Unfortunately, once you hit exalted with everyone, it's kinda useless. haha!
For anybody who cares, I DO have both a human AND a BElf Prot pally at lvl 70 and 80 respectively, and yes, I do prefer the BElf for the Arcane Torrent.
edit: forgot to bash on dwarf pallies. ;-) *looks around and sees all the dwarves surrounding him* They're ... uh... Awesome?

Dwarves-love to drink and have a great laugh. Actually a respectable alli race
Humans-Good looking females and you are hard to pick out from all the other humans on the BG.

You are going to give up a trinket slot all of the time to a pvp trinket? I doubt that with the awesome trinkets that are other options. Smart players chose race based on what it offers to them not how it looks. EMfH offers much more than the dwarf class offers. Not to mention the 3 expertise from sword/mace specialty is better than the 5 expertise from the mace specialty until their is a decent tanking mace in the game.
If you intend to go prot, I can heartily recommend dwarf.
There is no racial that the dwarf has that is not trumped by the human race. Humans have diplomacy (10% to all reputation gain is relatively overpowered with the amount of decent reputation gear in the game), EMfH, Perception (very nice pvp talent and somewhat useful for PvE although there are not a lot of stealth mobs any longer), and sword specialization which isn't as powerful as mace specialization but mace specialization doesn't affect the best options for tanking which are axes and swords.
On the other hand if you go dwarf you get stoneform which is useful and everything else which is novelty junk. I'm sure that 1% crit to guns and find treasure are really going to help a paladin tank. Stoneform is only useful for the remove bleed as 10% armor for 8 seconds is crap and in the end is not going to make or break the day half as often as EMfH will.

BE wasn't given as an option because the player seems to prefer alliance, so I didn't even consider them. However, blood elf racial abilities are also more powerful than the dwarf racial abilities. However, if more mobs used horrible bleed affects like back in TBC then dwarf would still be the master race. Right now the master race is human with night elf being a close second if you are considering pve and in pvp the master race is still human with undead being a close second.

Draenei's racial +hit isn't bad for Prot or Ret, and tossing GotN on yourself before a fight can save your healers a heal (albeit
only
a single heal). If you're going specifically for the "twinked-out" route, though, Human would be the way to go; their racials are rather overpowered. The Dwarven racials aren't really that helpful, but the increased starting Stamina isn't bad.
I'd make a comment about Belf Paladins, but
I'd get banned
you seem more interested in Alliance races, so...

Since you seem to have missed the point, emphasis on
the most important thing is that you're happy with your character
, with the rest of the post written in that context. If you consider yourself smarter than others because you value numbers more than what you see a majority of the time you spend on the game, your gain I suppose. You seem to be very upset by people preferring looks. :o
My paladin main is a human (as indicated) and I in no way deny that you don't get any better racials on either side faction. I have a 70 blood elf paladin as well, for the sake of the argument, and I do prefer the human one over him, as far as racials go.

Just a note, perception was removed from the game. Too many people thought human dual rogue 2v2 comp was OP, so they dropped it. Something to do with finding stealthies way before anyone had a chance to find you.... Although, IMO, dual UD rogues is just retardedly easy in comparison. Priests have zero chance against dual UD rogues unless they are hardcore scrubs and can't figure out the comp.

Blood Elf.
But if you're a sissy, dwarf for prot, human for ret, and whatever for holy (Draenei, maybe?).
