Of course spell power is important, I don't feel like it's more important than mp5 or spirit as a druid. I have been hearing spirit isn't as good as it used to be but if you're a tree then alot of your stuff is spirit based (not just mana regen). I have like 1300 unbuffed spell power (like 1400 maybe in tree) and I try to value spirit/mp5 more than spell power.
If you don't have the spellpower, your spirit (and thus mp5) isn't going to help when you can't keep your tank alive. It's a balancing act of spellpower, mana regen, a good mana pool, and survivability.

About how much SP should we be shooting for, say around level 60, 65, 70, 75, 80? I'm a recent convert from feral (63 now- switched at 60) and am trying to find the right balence of SP to other stats. When I was 60 i went ALL SP which ended up making me lose alot of hp (almost 1k), then i slowly started trying to balence out the other stats including int/crit/spi/mp5. I'm sitting at around 400 SP in reg caster mode, and wondering about how high i should be for future levels.

I was in Tier 4, Tier 5 quality gear when the conversion happened. I went from about 1750ish bonus healing to about 900ish spell power. By time WotLK came out, I had worked my way up to 1101 spellpower. To heal a heroic of Burning Crusade? 600-700ish. I wouldn't expect it to be -easy- with that, but you could do it. To heal a WotLK heroic? I had probably 1300ish spellpower in tree form by time I started heroics. They were challenging. Now I'm floating around on 1506 spellpower. And I still consider the heroics challenging. But to answer the question, you could probably walk into WotLK heroics with around 1200 spellpower and make it through most, if not all of them.

Well, I started heroics with only about 1200 in treeform(leveled as feral) and Ive never ever had trouble keeping a tank up. - this was while I was dressed in karagear and brutalgladiator mixed with a few blues and greens from Northrend.
As it is now, Ive got 1500healing in tree and almost 1000manaregen (400mp5), most of it is pure spirit. I still value spirit/mp5 over pure spellpower, mainly because I just don't see the plus with having heavy spellpower, you will only overheal. Only reason I see it to get spellpower is to be able to keep the tank up with only hots, causing you to be able to relax for a while, it also indirectly improves your manaregen.
Those Im playing with loves the fact that I don't go oom, we've been able to do alot more because of this, I keep the tank up using all hots and then I go dps, and while Im not topping any dmgmeters, my dps is significant enough.
I don't raid that much, mainly because I don't see the point anymore, Ive been to plenty of raids during my time raiding, and ever since MC/ZG Ive noticed that I just don't get any drops from it. Which is why Im going PvP. (During raids, I never go below 50%, and that's when using innervate on someone else and not using pots, we usually have three healers, me, a holypriest that goes oom instantly and naggs about innervate and a paladin dressed in t5. To people saying I slack and that the priest wouldn't go oom if I'd just heal more, we never wipe because of lack of healing.)
P.S. Sorry for the long post, work is
soooo
boring. Hope I shed some light on the situation. Might add that I believe it's up to the individual player to decide how much they want to go in spellpower or such. Most gear in Northrend are very similar, some stats thrown around abit.
Just a tips though:
Don't take haste and critrating(and obviously not hitrating... Yeah some healers do use hitrating). Crit and haste doesn't give anything to druids, it doesn't speed up our hots and it shouldn't either..
other than that, if you feel uninsecure about your healing, go some 80instances, I never did the 80instances on normal but Im guessing they are like the heroics on some lower instances.
EDIT: Atm, Im stacking up on spellpower mainly, reason is PvP, I need to be able to keep both me and my warrior up while the real dpsers push up to 5k dps.
