there is no clear tank spec for DKs...they can tank in any spec as long as they have some tank gear and keep a rotation so they always have a skill available to catch back aggro.
To mark some differences though, unholy spec is ideal for aoe tanking or for tanking caster bosses while frost is best for long melee fights. both should be used with a mix of blood talents up to the "Veteran of the 3rd War" for extra hp/atk and parry but generally u don't need some special spec to tank if you know what you're doing.
Myself, as unholy DK,i have done half BC dungeons without healer and currently at 71lvl have done UK,Nexus and AJ in less than 30mins each with no problem at all.

LOL CHILLBLAIN AND HUNGERING COLD? WHAT !@#$ING IDIOT TANK WOULD TAKE THOSE? obviously a noob that doesn't know #$%^ about dk's...and if you're asking yourself, "why would blizzard make these talents available if they didn't want you to be able to use them?". the answer to that is because they aren't f'ing tanking talents. un-be-liev-able. 4 sylables. L2DK.

for tanking? really? wow.. lets see here.
no anticipation.. not a tank without the 5/5/5, and so far you only have 5/5/fail right here.
no annihilation... gimping your damage output by removing your diseases when you use oblit.. and you're gimping your damage if you don't use oblit.
icy reach... worthless for tanking.. tis a PvP talent.
no frigid deathplate... extra chance for melee to miss.. tanking talent..
endless winter... PvP talent. you shouldn't have to use chains of ice... ever. if you are, you're failing as a tank.
chillblains.. well, if you get rid of endless winter, you get rid of chillblains, but they're bad for the same reason.. reduces movement speed? bah.. PvP talent.
no tundra stalker... extra 10% dmg from ALL abilities when you have frost fever up, which should ALWAYS BE UP.. sigh.. when will people realize that damage = threat...
hungering cold... seriously?
okay.. so this is a halfway decent PvP build, but it's utter crap for tanking. lets try this...
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=j0E0cZGxxtGcbMbRVosx0x
it may not be the perfect tanking build by any means, and some people will probably have some variations with it, but i can at least back up the reasons i picked the talents and explain how they will relate to TANKING..

Go 26/36/9!
- Lichbourne ftw, Unbreakable Armor, Veteran of the Third war, All 3 first tier tanking ones, and 6 sec longer Diseases + Imp Death Grib - I can easy MT naxxramas 25man, and farm maly25man with this specc.

This is what I am going for:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=jbE0ahZGgxtc0boMRAssz
This is the correspondent tank build you are looking for.
1. I want to start with the defenses. If you use Frost Presence you will have 60% of the items armor as bonus.
2. Lichborne, Icebound Fortitude and Unbreakable Armor give you a 53 sec defenses bonus, out of 1 min cool down used in a rotation, or less time but more bonuses used together combined.
3. Frost Aura and Acclimation. Frost Aura gives 1point in all resistances per level, so 80 points @ lvl80 + the Acclimation stacking bonus.
I am at level 64 at the moment and I have between 35-40 % pure spell resistance from any school.
4. Bladed Armor and Horn of Winter supply all the needed bonus to AP and strength for this build.
5. I do not know why but all builds no matter tank or DPS have lacked a combination of the skills "Blood of the North/Death Rune Mastery" or " Death Rune Mastery/Reaping". Such a combination allows your Death Knight to have 6 Death Runes after first round of rotations in combat. In you do not know what this means, read some more about Death Runes.
And Last but not least, when I hit 80 I will go for gear that gives me +hit rating, +crit strike, +defense and try to hit the cap of these three bonuses.
1. Okay, whatever. Not like you werent already in Frost Presence.
2. Lichborne is on a 3 minute cooldown.
3. Both are optional/situational.
4. Bladed armor is good as a tank, sure, but why are you making AP a point here?
5. Good luck, you're shooting yourself in the foot when you're stuck with one blood and one unholy rune for the next 10 seconds because the current system randomly chooses what death runes to use...
+Crit cap... tank... what.
EDIT: What. The. Hell.
Runic Power Mastery?
Endless Winter?
Chillbains?
No Tundra Stalker?
No Anticipation?
Do us all a favor and roll another DPS class instead.

That looks solid for a Blood Tank build, but no Death Rune Mastery? What do you spend the extra Unholy and Frost Runes on?
EDIT: Forgive the sarcastic tone, I'm actually curious.

IT>PS, and then DS for health regeneration. When needed re-apply IT>PS
Gotta have have 2 things to be a tank, hold aggro and stay alive. You cant tank if your dead.
Rarely do i notice a lack of blood runes. Theres always some other ability that i can use after which a blood rune cool down has ended. I used to have Death Rune Mastery, and didnt notice it helped much. About the only time i noticed it was when i'd want to use Vamp Blood, Mark of Blood and Rune Tap all at the same time, but i've just learned to space out the timings better so i dont need to use all 3 at the same time. Just takes a bit of finess.

This is written from someone who's never tanked a DK before. Most people here seem to be saying two hander only. Can someone kindly explain this idea to me? I mean why not dual wield 2 of the nice single hander tank weapons with runes of sword breaking? Is it just a damage thing? How does the damage of a two-hander compare to two singles with icy talons? I'm not trying to argue with anyone, it seems most people here have successfully tanked with their DKs and know what they are talking about, Im just trying to figure stuff out. I've never been one to take "Cuz I say so!" as an answer.
