it's purely aestetics
even at level 70, a couple cloth won't make or break your damage negation
i would stick to all plate but many paladins go for mail or leather quite readily

I pick up whatever is better for the stats. I try to stay in primarily plate, but if we don't have a Restoration Shaman in the group you can bet I'm nabbing up those Mail bracers! No clothie? Those +heal cloth boots are mine!

I live the life of a cloth wearer at the moment simply because at my lvl(42) it is much easier to find cloth that has the stats I need. I have some mail and plate is non-existent. I do wear plate when traveling and grinding but for healing I wear paper.

I wear cloth when healing. Primarily because when T4 drops, it's not the paladin token. So after a month of not getting and healing gear at all to replace blues and greens I took up the task of getting to 375 Tailoring and headed to get the Primal Mooncloth Set.
While cloth is "bad" the only reason people bring up is "Because you're going to get hit, then you will get insta owned, you will have like barely any armor at all"
Since when was 10k armor low? Right now in full healing gear, I'm at 1460~ +healing and 140 mp5. This is with Kara epics and no T4 at all.
It is purely up to the player. Plate is good to wear but when you're in an instance and you know the tank is good or at least average you can slap on some cloth and heal to your fullest extent.
"But you get owned fast in arenas"
People are known to carry multiple sets of gear why not for Holy paladins?
Had to rant there a little.
Carry on!

If you're healing an instance you're fine with cloth since if the tank is doing his or her job you shouldn't have any aggro, if you occasionally get aggro you can just bubble.
I personally don't look at the armor or stamina value for my healing set.
But then again, I'm not doing heroics yet, I might change my mind once I get started with them. :)

The dress I picked up in Blood Furnace for my male blood elf paladin - I just SO love the colour...
...why are you looking at me like that?

I don't like it, but hey I'm a PvPer so if you wanna run around in Cloth do it, I'll just be happy when I see Big numbers flash above your head.
I have 4 peices of cloth, I'm also at 10k armor.
Whats the biggest number you're gonna see? 1k, 1.2k?
I wear cloth for PvE, only for PvP if I'm healbotting and I know the warrior will come back to own face on the rogue/warrior/druid.

The damage mitigation from armor scales much less with the more armor you get. So having a few peices of cloth really isn't a problem.
this is basically the sum of this entire thread
difference between cloth and plate at T4 = ~1k/piece
1k at 10k AC = ~3% damage reduction
wow... that makes so much difference....
arena: rogue crits you for 500, 3% of that is 15
hits for 200, 3% is 6
kara: prince crits you for 12k, 3% of that is 360
prince hits for 5k, 3% is 150
it adds up, but you don't need to make a big fuss about it
