I recently had Wildblue through Dish network and I can assure you DO NOT GET IT!!!! I finaly got out of contract and got a card for my laptop through my cell phone provider. Lag is around 200-300 not bad compared to 2500ms-4500ms average on satelite. One thing to remember is the plan you get. make sure you get one that has unlimited data usage.

I currently have Hughes Net and while I wouldn't be able to successfully BG, I find myself quite able to do instances and regular pve.
The best latency I can possibly get is around 800ms. I find that this works fairly well for when I want to heal dungeon runs as it allows me to stack my heals easily. However, if I need to suddenly cleanse someone, that is where my latency shows itself and puts me behind in some action. I've actually gotten into a bad habit of often just ignoring certain debuffs because of it.
However, the best case scenario is not the most often. On average I find myself in the 1200-1500 range. I can still manage to heal in this, but it is much less forgiving if mistakes are made or there is a lot of heat on the tank. Sometimes the heals will stack well, sometimes they won't.
There are some extremely bad times where latency reaches into the 2000+ range. Here, all I can do is barely manage to quest/grind and if I do, I better have a class that can heal itself well to save me a lot of downtime from lagged attacks allowing my opponent to get a few unanswered attacks in.
I think the worst part of satellite is the inconsistency. When I first start playing WoW (a little over a year ago), my latency was in the 700-1200 range and I did not notice it alter very much from there. I never had a 2000+ range latency. However, in the past few months, 2000+ has become more commonplace and my average is creeping up. In addition, there has been some poor message integrity it seems (I'm not sure the proper networking lingo to describe this). There will be times that it is not necessarily my latency but poor delivering of information packets and I think some stuff is lost, having to be resent, adding to the lag felt. It also really depends on the time I am playing. I live on the east coast US and in the late evening to early morning my latency is pretty decent. However, anywhere from 12 in the afternoon to 9 at night, I can have some pretty cruddy latency.

I use Hughesnet, yes its not as good as dsl/cable but you should be able to play the game and not just pve, i do bg's instances, everything. You may get laggy moments and you'll have to learn to watch the weather a bit (yes you will not be able to raid/instance during a storm lol gl on an understanding guild i'm lucky on that one, they know that 'oh crumbs thunder' means backup healer LOOKOUT lol)
@Nystali You need to have your system checked, I was having similar problems, latency just kept getting worse then the tower started having the recieve blank out altogether. If you've had your system through a season change (hot to cold or vice versa) it CAN damage the little seal where the satelite antenna thing (can't remember the correct term but its the thing sticking out from the dish) connects to the dish and cable housing thus getting moisture into the tubing of that part and ruining it. Its not terribly uncommon and will cause those slowdowns and eventually cause it to start failing altogether. Takes the repairman maybe 5 mins to check and replace it and is covered by warranty :)
Also there isnt any other indicator, you're signal strength and all the other little things on the data page and everything will look fine :/
