I recently posted a request for inventory tracking on character profiles, too. I'm wanting help managing the inventories on my many tradeskill and storage alts, but the same features you're requesting would work nicely for that.
I spent a lot of time looking through the addons in Curse.com and couldn't find anything that allows for use of the gathered data outside of WoW. That's where this feature would be unique and really valuable (and, if the Wowhead Client does the data gathering, would give people a strong incentive to use it).

Bump. I know it's a 4 year old thread, but this is something I'd love to see. When you're looking at a recipe, and can see right away, "Oh, that alt has some of the mats in his bank, score", it would really help !
