Who is in the wrong here?

I joined a Shado-Pan Monastery instance with a 514 ilvl. I do around 100k dps on Master Snowdrift (not the best, I admit. I have a topic over on the mage forums asking how I can do better). Healer (disc priest with an ilvl of 541) does around 84k and kicks me for only doing 14k above that (doesn't say anything about the tank and 2 other dps doing LESS than that).
I understood that item level scaled exponentially, so that the difference between a 522 and a 521 person will be larger than the difference between a 521 and a 520 person), I tried to explain this to them, got called a noob and told that "dps>healer". Am I wrong about item level scaling exponentially? Even if I'm not, should the difference have been larger?

Nope, the guy wanted to kick you, and that was that.

Children, children. You are both there for your daily. Why does it matter? Unless you were breaking CC, pulling, or other shenanigans that priest needs to unbunch his panties.

To be honest, I was pretty angry when I made the post, so I erroneously made the bad dungeon run the focus of the post, when my real intention was to ask whether or not I was wrong about item level scaling exponentially. I'm sorry! D:

Don't worry about it. He most likely popped all his CD's to do as much damage as he could.
He didn't stop to heal anyone, since attonement healing is OP.
The priest is just full of himself and
thinks
he's good.

DPS are vulnerable to such spiteful kicks, since the queues are so long. Don't let it get you down, though.

If I join a random dungeon on my disc priest which is in mostly normal SoO gear I pretty much
expect
to outdps the dps because it's very likely that I outgear them by a very large margin. That guy was an ass for making an issue of it.
As for answering your question, yes, damage increases exponentially with every new tier of gear. I ran a few simulations in simcraft using their sample profiles to double check, and f.e. the heroic gear 2H fury profile (just picked one spec at random to give you an idea of the numbers) simmed ~129k dps in T14, ~223k in T15 and ~403k in T16.

Just sounds like he's picking a fight for no reason. Might be upset about something or wants to boost his ego. In my opinion healers should be the lowest on dps and shouldn't really be dpsing unless it's needed (which should never happen) or unless they're bored and can waste the mana.
The only time I kick in dungeons anymore is for afk players and rude people that aren't going to help the group at all. To me your damage was just fine for what you were playing. Especially if you were above the other dps.

It's quite normal for a disc priest to have smite healing as a part of their rotation. However, the guy was being a jerk.

This, pretty much.
Any amount of DPS at or above 40k is more than adequate for a 5man dungeon. This isn't a Heroic25 Raid, and people expecting, or DEMANDING others to pull 300k+ DPS are not just ridiculous, but highly unreasonable, and petty.

Thanks guys. I shouldn't have listened to the guy in the first place (especially since he wanted me to AoE on the two minibosses before Snowdrift...), but this makes me feel much better. Thanks!

If you were out DPSing the Tank, the Healer and the other two DPS then by definition you were top of the charts (if anyone is petty enough to monitor the performance of others with Recount in a 5 man).
I would have been miffed too, but would have put the healer on ignore so that I never had to deal with that jerk again. Life is far too short to spend a second of it dealing with an ignoramus; especially in a game and most especially in a dungeon of all things.
