Why are the tank trinkets in SoO so 'useless'?

All of them are either situational, useless or come across as fluff trinkets.
2.1 % of damage converted into healing? Useless for half the tanks in game.
28% less AoE damage? Situational or useless, since the mechanics are already designed to be avoided or survived.
'Useless', all of them.

I don´t know... for bears.. the Vial of Living corruption
Vial of Living Corruption
along with the 2pc set bonus is really interesting. The vial reduces the CD of barkskin and when barkskin finishes, we get a self heal and 45% dodge. That along with the trinket for 2% healing for all damage are very nice. There is also a Stam trinket with an on-use Crit ( best stat for bears).
I think you are underestimating that Vial though. that is a big drop in your cds.

they're not useless; you just haven't been trying hard enough to use them.
i thought the same thing about that aoe dmg reduction trinket, then i ran a raid with it & there's about a thousand chances to use it, if you're looking. 30ish% reduction might not seem like a lot but when the entire raid is getting pounded with aoe & you have a boss on you, it actually helps out your healers a lot.

The 2% healing is completely worthless. Lets assume you are doing 300k dps. This requires a fair amount of gear and vengeance on a single target fight to achieve that kind of damage (Especially since you are using this god awful trinket). All that dps for a mere 6k hps. Compare that even to the new talent Ysera's gift. Right now without flask (I normally use agi flask anyway) my bear is at 927k hp. Just the healing from Ysera's gift with that much health is 9.27k hps. Add in the fact that if you are full health it will heal an ally instead, while the trinket will frequently overheal if your healers are topping you off. This adds up to the trinket being likely less than half as valuable for healing as one passive talent. The only thing I can think this might be good for at all would be soloing old content on classes with low self healing.
The cooldown reduction trinket is fantastic, and I'm hoping for one soon. I'm not 100% sure which trinket I'll want other than that yet. The Garrosh one with stam and on use crit is pretty garbage when you consider at my current gear level (560) without any trinket procs/dancing steel up I have over 80% crit (And this is after changing to matching all socket bonuses to lose a bit of crit.) With my current trinkets proc'd crit goes over 100% which is just a waste. An on use crit trinket would be pretty bad when you think about the fact that I'm still more than 20 ilvls off BiS and crit will become increasingly higher as I approach BiS. I'm honestly probably just going to go with the dark shaman agi trinket (Multistrike) just for a dps increase.

im really hoping my warr alt, can get his hands on the aoe damage reduc trinket from flex or lfr.
while not usefull in certain fights. its incredible for other ones.
especially when you take into consideration, that almost every encounter has atleast 1 form of aoe damage too deal with.
its especially nice in fights with lots of aoe damage going around that you might not be able too avoid at certain times and forced too take some hits. like on shamans, when the boss spews the slimes on you. in lfr its not really strange for the dps to be incredibly slow taking them down. and having the aoe reduc trinket allows you too save another cd for a more pressing situation. like the bloodlust when they reach 25-30% hp (forgot when it was).
as for the healing trinket, i agree its a bit lackluster. especially since most tanks their 2p is more usefull then that.
the cooldown reduc trinket is godlike in my eyes, got the dps version of it on my hunter main and im loving it. so cant wait for the tank version on my alt.

I'm just going to come out and suggest you just don't know how to tank.
Anything that helps out the healers and boosts your survivability is useful, and as a tank that's pretty much your one job aside from holding aggro and moving the bosses.

Indeed.
The most "useless" trinkets, in my opinion, are the ones that require manual activation. I have enough buttons to push and cooldowns to keep track of already.

but that really depends on the boss fights and how many trinkets you have. For instance, the AOE reducing trinket is going to be amazing for some fights and if your guild is having trouble with that boss, adding that one button for a few minutes isn´t that much of a problem.
I still don´t agree with the OP. The CD cooldown trinket is amazing for tanks, and the other ones are situational that you can switch in and out depending on the fight. Each of them at certain points will be amazing for certain encounters.
