The problem with ret pvp.

Everyone who plays ret in pvp gets the feeling "I don't do anything" or that constant feeling of helplessness and neglect by blizzard. It's because something's just not "There" for ret players.
That something is a unique mechanic.
Our bubble lasts all of 1.5 seconds it takes to cast shattering troll or ass dispel, our heals pale in comparison to other hybrids and now even pure dps has more self-healing than we do.
Our greatest dps buff, wings, is a option for warriors and yet that option is considered
inferior
.
There is so far absolutely
nothing
a ret can do that another class cannot do better and they aren't even jacks of all stats, they're about as viable as they were in warcraft 2 in comparison to ogre mages.
We just need a unique mechanic after years of blizz taking dumps on us from lowering bubble by a full 3rd, adding I.W.I.N. buttons like shattering throw and mass dispel to the game, leaving us the only melee with no way to engage other than to use hand of freedom, pray desperately it is not dispelled and run in at slightly above average speed while being hammered with attacks.
The feeling of being a ret is like being a handicapped person. You have to have skills no one else has to make up for your lack. a blind man has fine hearing, a mute learns sign language and a deaf man can read lips.
Paladin players have to have an unparaelled level of skill to merely compete at all and even then, we only get more nerfs in the guise of buffs.
our only slightly comparable ability, or burst was lowered with the "Buff" to GoAK. our ability to stop mesmerspamming warlocks with turn evil was lowered with the "Buff" to turn evil.
Paladin mechanics are nothing unique and every single mechanic we have is a pale mirror of abilties of other classes.
We desperately need something unique, something that lets Ret be viable, somethng incomparable like ring of peace or overpower or vanish. something that no other class can do.
Signed: A jaded and very battered ret player who just wanted to play the class that let him ressurect 6 knights in the middle of storming a enemy expansion.

I think the best thing blizz could do for rets atm,is give them a new ability called "harakiri".Basiclly your arena queue would pop,you would see that the other team have actually turned up,then you'd hit your brand new ability, throw yourself on your sword and end the futillity of it all without wasting too much precious time. You would then be able to rejoin the queue and hope you get a bye and some free conquest points and rating.Repeat until you get bored :)

Unfortunately the Paladin class has a single strong PvP spec (holy) so the others get de-prioritized. Shaman have the same problem - Restoration is great in PvP and the others don't do very much.

Another topic about PVP issues.
So let's throw some more spice into soup.
How it would be if
Inquisition
would gain buff to be 100% boost and passive ability (always on)
That would probably cause such a moan and groan even rogue issues would pale in comparison.
I don't really care if that insult other classes, it would be fun for change to have some real power and chance to have importance in game ...

Ret still has insane burst if you time it out right. But ret is fairly straight forward, there is no zang that makes Ret feel special.

I agree with the OP 100%.
I haven't been doing much PvP this season and most of what I was doing was as Holy. However, a couple weeks ago I got in the mood to smash some faces in and I was manhandled at nearly every instance. Admittedly, I'm not the greatest PVPer, but I know I used to do much better than I did this time. Maybe someday ret will be given some PvP love, but I'm not holding my breath.

I never understood why it isn't. Blizz balances to the spell being ON so for the first 4-5 seconds of a fight, we are under everyone elses DPS and have to play catchup. Now granted we do catch up but why it isn't a passive ability by now I have no clue. It's something that is "Mandatory" to be on anyways

So you basically want to produce 4.0.1 retri paladins again?
Their talent tree had everything passive and with crit, haste and damage modifiers and multipliers up to 50%, double bubble, instant free FoLs and what not. They were destroying battlegrounds. You can check the talent tree here:
http://www.gamestool.net/tc/wow335/paladint.php
You are missing his point. Every good ret has Inquisition up 100%; its not a decision. So instead of making Rets waste 3 holy power and a gcd every 60seconds just make it passive when you get it at level 81.
It's not like its a burst ability, it has no CD. It's always up; so lets make it passive.

Maybe make it so that it's something other than what we need to do to actually compete pvp wise, every time you fall back to spamming word of glory and kiting, you end up having to waste 3 more hpower turning it on (That's 4 gcds) before you can get back on the offensive.
So much for being versatile, even DRUIDS spend less time switching gears between dps and healing and they freaking shapeshift.
Oh and Zakkhar, your link's busted.

Does Slice and dice consume a resource that takes a stupid long time to build?
No it consumes combo points which take mere nanoseconds to build and increases attack speed to the point where you build them even faster.
Oh and your link just gives me a blank talent tree.
EDIT: Can you just name which talents? I gave up trying to attach which talents to which effects you put here.

Do you see rogues whining that slice and dice isnt passive? All the rogues have it 100% of time anyway. And it doesnt last half as much as inquisition (snd 36s/ 5cp base).
They're considering making SnD passive for rogues in the next expansion anyway.
Rogues have significantly more options to generate CP than paladins, and Assassination spec has options to extend SnD to 5cp length (regardless of previous CP use/length) and refresh it
with Envenom
(note that Envenom replaces Eviscerate). That's why they aren't whining and that's why they don't have to worry about length of the buff.
Admittedly, I have no clue about combat, but I'd imagine CP/SnD management fares significantly better in comparison to ret.

Most folks are under the impression that a retribution paladin is supposed to be on equal terms with something like an arms warrior when it comes to damage front, and that's just not true. Essentially. a ret paladin is a support spec that gets to throw around insane burst every two minutes. Outside of wings, we tend to hit like a wet noodle, really.

The issue is less damage, but what further does a ret pally bring to the table (in terms of RBG). 2 min cd on a blind, 1 min cd stun and your choice of a casted sap or fear.
But don't start about the mobility of a ret pally until you have felt the wrath of roots on a warrior. Then cry about mobility.
