I'm trying to figure out what numbers to trust. I'm currently farming for the Flametalon.
Here
it says 671 out of 23804 drops
Yet when I add up the totals from all
4 raid modes
(10m N, 25m N, 10m H, 25m H), it says 671 out of 31639. I double checked to make sure, and its the same. 10m N alone has 21,742. so obviously the total is more than 23,804 when counting all four modes.
I'm not asking what the actually drop chance is or whatever, I just want to know how wowhead is counting totals. It obviously checkmarks off all specific drops of the mount regardless of mode, but somehow the total loot counts that don't have the mount are skewed in some way.
So should I trust just the total and discount any specific mode's numbers? Or should I think of the total displayed on this site as some sort of glitch that is somehow misinterpreting the data from each raid mode?
Another example:
Vitreous Stone Drake
Flat Total: 1644 out of 182069 from Slabhide
Slabhide
numbers from both Normal and Heroic: 1644 out of 215957
Even more confusion: The Item Window info says the drop rate is 0.35% yet right below it the Flat Total puts it at 0.9%. When using the 1644/215957 it comes out to a 0.76% drop rate. How the heck does that Item Window get 0.35%?
I don't care what the actually drop rate is. What I want to know is what to trust within this site's own data contradicting itself over and over. How does WoWhead's logic work?

My guess is that %% does not count kills that did not see any loot.

If it doesn't count loot that didn't have it, then how is it not always at 100%?

The whole Wowhead team is in Vegas for our annual company conference this week--we've been handling things like yesterday's PTR in between meetings, but won't be fully back to coding until Monday. I'll see if I can get a dev to take a look and give me a technical answer then.

"Did not see loot" and "did not see <specific item> dropped" is a two different things.

"Did not see loot" and "did not see <specific item> dropped" is(are)
a
two different things. Then that just brings us back to square one: why does one count "seeing the loot" and another statistic for the exact same item drop rate not count "seeing the loot"?
Well anyway, these questions won't really have an answer from you, considering you're just guessing (as you state). I think I'll wait for the blue post to respond, though it has been two days since monday.

what ever caused it, seems to be fixed now.
Can you give some evidence? I just rechecked all pages, and all have exactly the same numbers that I used in my OP.

So any word yet, or is it still on some backburner? I'm not asking it to be a top priority, but just something to give a time frame of when I can expect to see progress on some sort of fix or justification to its current state. I'd like not to have to keep checking this every day, if you know it will probably take weeks to do or what-not....

Okay, well I'll just post every week to see if you're around to answer. I'd like to know if its simply not a concern, and put it in the back of my mind as something not to care about or trust either, that way I don't have to keep coming back to this problem to see if there is any sort of update on it....

I don't know when this'll be investigated, and I don't even know if I'll be the one assigned to this issue, since I don't prioritize or assign tickets.
However, "after hours", I took a look into this issue, and it relates to how we record item drop data in the database, not how we report the numbers once they get there. Since it's not a web-related issue, it's not something I would know how to fix right away. A more involved investigation is required.
Again, I can offer no specificity as to when, but fwiw, I'm curious about it, and I'd like to see it fixed.

I got Aryu to take a look at this today, and he was able to identify and fix the display issue. The numbers should add up correctly now after clearing cache.

I don't see any change in the example pages I gave. Do I have to do anything manual on my end to see it? Thank you though for looking into it.
Edit: I see that the Item Window % given is now more in line with the flat total, but the flat total still gives a number that is lower than the total of adding all modes (normal and heroic).

We are currently pushing new data (eta is 30mn or so) which should be more accurate. It will only be 'fixed' on the PTR site however, for the main site data should be updated tomorrow.

Nice, I just checked the flametalon and drake, and just to make sure, I also checked many other mounts, and the numbers all add up. Thank you so much! Its so much easier to see the summarized information that I can trust! :D
