New Tailoring and LW Recipes

I don't know what dipstick thought that using discovery for the new PvP recipes made sense but its a boatload of fail. You will need 74-83 days to get all of the LW recipes (9 are not PvP) and 37-41 days to get all of the Tailoring recipes (4 are not PvP). By the time you have what recipes you need (if you are starting out in BG's) you can mostly be in nice new PvP epics.
As far as the non PvP recipes give them the same low chance of proccing, I don't care. But this is major league stupid on the PvP recipes.
In the past it has been asked why other professions don't have something equivalent to the JC dailies. This a perfect example of when doing that with other professions is a piss poor idea. People level the armor making professions and for that matter engineering to make their own stuff! This just takes that away.
Daily recipe acquisition whether its by discovery or quest requires two things; a fairly high number of new recipes and lots of people who will each consume a little of what we make. The new Tailoring and LW Recipes succeed on the former but fail on the latter.
The system works if the amounts to buy non major crafted items on the AH are relatively small , When the total amounts are large like lets say, up to 9 pieces of armor (that you could make yourself if you had the recipe) people who would gladly make it themselves will not happily choose to buy. And that doesn't even take in to account that the new stuff is only level 458.

I prefer discovery over locking them behind a rep grind that takes a month to get. At least I have a chance to get some patterns earlier.

After conversations in trade chat and within guilds over the last few years I strongly disagree with you that most people choose there profession to make gear for themselves . Most people pick there professions to make gold .
By learning recipies/designs/patterns( all called patterns in teh rest of this post for simplification ) through discovery this enhances your chances to make gold.
If you have discovered a pattern that not many others have the price you get for it will be higher .
Most players that I have spoken to all agree that by the time you have learnt a pattern , gathered the required amount of mats ( especially for rare/epic ones ) then you would already have outgeared what you can make . So you make it for others at nice profit

Please keep in mind that I am only talking about the three armor making professions and engineering (which is mostly self contained). And far as people expecting to make a profit from making armor from these professions; they can expect all they want but the odds are against them unless they really put a lot of time and effort into it. And of course a little luck doesn't hurt.
While I don't agree that there is profit* on these latest PvP patterns I do appreciate your point. If you could make some cash that would mitigate some of my dislike but by no means all of it.
*not selling on my server from what I can see so far.
Edit: I have made 6 pieces of the new PvP gear in what I what I think should be the best slots for what patterns I have available in Cloth (2), Leather (3), and Mail (1) and put them up for sale on my AH at competitive prices. This should provide info on what my market is doing.
You are correct that it is commonplace for you to have already overtaken a raid quality pattern (1) by the time you have accumulated the mats to make it. And if you do you can sell the item for a nice profit. But so what? Raiders are a small % of the player base and those high profits have ime only lasted a few weeks before the market dries up to the point you can sell the mats for more than you can sell the item. One other major difference. I can easily have the mats to make a full set of PvP armor even before I get to the current level cap. I will just lack the recipes. Imo not being to do that is bad for the game as it discourages people from trying BG's*. YMMV. In any case thank you for your response to my rant. I feel better now.
(1) at the moment the only
rare/epic
MoP pattern drops I am aware of are in raids so I altered the phrasing a bit . If there are any in 5 mans or otherwise then oops.
* I also did not care for SoH price on the first set of recipes but at least you get all the recipes you needed for yourself in a week or so. For LW's this can take over 80 days if your luck is bad which I find asinine.

Report on my AH experience with the new PvP patterns;
AH Result: Qualified Failure
2 out of 6 pieces sold for 400 which was 150 over the mat value. Both pieces were non set and were suitable for more than one class. On a net basis I would have made more just selling the mats.
Conclusion; There isn't a good profit to be made here.

Well people aren't going to use the gear for pvp for the most part they have the epics that cost hp now so there just go there. But The might want them if there is a good armor skin for them to moggle.
I would try sell the 5 peices together. And you should never try to sell items below want the mats can be sold for your just shooting yourself in the foot there.

I may have not been clear enough on the cost thing. The GP's I got for selling 2 LW items was less than the mat value of the 4 items I made. So I did price them above mat cost on a per item basis. But that was not enough to absorb the 2 items that did not sell.
Which bears out my point that these
PvP
recipes are not all that profitable and that the discovery method was not a good choice here.

I don't mind the discovery mode, when it's combined with trainable or rep patterns, but what I want to see is LW patterns that either look amazing or are actually useful (or at least entertaining, like a mount or pet). Typically, by the time I get the pattern learned and farm up the mats, I've got far better gear. Bliz has pretty much ignored LW since they merged the specialties and gave us leg/bracer enhancement.
And yes, I do have this profession to make gear for myself and my alts. Well, that's why I learned it way back in Vanilla, but it hasn't really been useful for that since BC. Now it just clothes my leveling alts. I have different professions on all of them so I can make some money and fill out the gear.

I dont see you point here, The new recipes are the same as the ones you buy with honor, it just makes it easier to obtain for new 90s no rather than bg farm.
And you already got your PvP crafted gear when buying it with spirits...
