no. You will need to have a full account.
Vanilla, BC, LK - If you just bought LK and didnt get vanilla or BC, you will need to buy those.

Um...no; if you upgrade a starter account to a Live one, you automatically get Vanilla, BC and Wrath. When you download it's going to 5.1, you just can't access the Cata or MoP content without getting the new expansions.
The monthly sub is only going to be 15 dollars.

Hi everyone! Here's some general info regarding expansion upgrades and subscription information. This can be a bit confusing to the newer player, so I thought I'd just break this down a bit.
1. Per each region, there is really only one download.
What I mean by this is you'll have a player who is playing on the trial, and then maybe they see the Battle Chest at the store, so many times they think they'll need to pop in the disc to install the new part of the game. They do not. What is included in the Battle Chest is the foundation of the game, and when you upgrade a game either digitally or with a key that you bought from the store, the game will update automatically. So the long story short is, if you can play the game at all and you upgrade- don't bother popping a disc in.
2. There is no difference in basic subscription rates per region, regardless of which expansion you have.
Although players can choose a variety of ways to pay for their gametime (including the various monthly plans), they do not get charged more if they have multiple expansions than say... the folks who just have the basic Battle Chest. Of note: some areas in the world will have the local residents pay taxes for digital subscriptions.
3. World of Warcraft must be upgraded in order of expansions.
The exception to this would be if a player upgraded with the bulk (all-in-one) purchase that we offer through battle.net where you get a bit of a deal for upgrading all the way through several expansions if you do it at the same time. Many players who are on the trial want to play in Pandaria, but they would not be able to unless they upgraded to the main game (Battle Chest), and then upgraded through Cataclysm and then also through Mists of Pandaria. The general order is: Trial > Battle Chest > Cataclysm > Mists of Pandaria.
4. The expansions do not come with game time.
The Battle Chest does come with 30 days of gametime, however once a trial has been upgraded it is now considered subscription based. After the first 30 days, the game must be maintained with gametime in order to be accessible. Please keep in mind that we do not penalize an account for being cancelled, or for being frozen (gametime runs out). We will keep your characters just as you had them prior to the account being inactive - the only exception to this would be basic changes to the game that may modify some of the contents to the game.
Please let us know if this helped!

Hey Chooser,
Glad I could help! The trial account for WoW is live, but it does have some restrictions - so long as the account is a trial, the characters can't level past 20, you can't receive mail, you won't be able to talk in the various general/trade channels. Depending on what you upgrade to, you'll be able to max your characters out to different levels. For example: When you upgrade to the basic Battle Chest (which is the first upgrade) this allows you to level your characters all the way up to level 80, Cataclysm allows you to go to 85, and Mists of Pandaria allows you to go up to 90.
Level restriction lifts aren't the only cool perk - each of the expansions grant access to new areas that otherwise would be inaccessible or difficult to traverse at lower levels. Keep in mind that what we call the Battle Chest actually includes the first three games (Original WoW, The Burning Crusade, and The Wrath of the Lich King).
Let us know if you have any other questions :)
PS One other thing I would like to mention: Sometimes the upgrades can take up through 72 hours to process. So if you do a digital upgrade online, and don't immediately see the trial restrictions fall away - don't worry! This is normal and you should see the account fully upgraded by 3 days at the latest.(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

I'd like to stress that you do
NOT
have to purchase the expansions Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, these are included in the base game, the Battle Chest. Some stores sadly still sell these expansions.
You need the Battle Chest to level higher than 20, and the only expansions you have to get (if you want them) are Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria.

BTW Araxorn. Much prefer the simple font color responses rather that the Blizz within a frame ones. They fit the style of these boards much better.
Cheers.
