Is there supposed to be something to discuss here? Maybe the long post obscured my vision but I just can't see it.

So....why didn't you do the 'smart' thing and just run through Felwood, Winterspring, then ran up into Hyjal from there?

Few people probably even know about that path, and of the few who do, most probably think that Frostwhisper Gorge presents the final barrier not yet having met the spirit healer on the south side of it (I only met her recently as I attempted to find out if it was still possible to travel from Winterspring to Azshara directly - it is).
But yeah, Hyjal is completely accesible by foot.

The "smart" thing to do is just eat rez sickness and fly back up there.
Running back is going to take 10 minutes anyway, and you can just go afk or something while your timer runs out.
Yeah but he's talking about a lowbie, not a level 60.

Moments ago I spotted a same-faction warrior and paladin together, apparently questing. They came toward me, trailing their aggro'd mobs. I of course died. That shouldn't be able to kill you, unless these mobs were spamming AoE, or you attacked them.
I figure you are on an account without Cataclysm? Then it may even be intended and
not
a bug that dying in a Cataclysm zone sends you to a non-Cataclysm graveyard.
All in all, it's way easier (and in any case faster) to ask someone with a
Sandstone Drake
or similar mount to take you up there, get the two Elders, and return. Running all the way from lower Hyjal to Nordrassil would take very long, even without the deaths.

I'm developing the impression that Flammata is on some kind of challenge that would prohibit help of that sort.

Elder coins persist past the holiday, at least mine were still in my bag yesterday. If you haven't deleted them yet chuck them in your bank for next year.

They totally persist from year to year. I had 60-something in my bag from all the years they weren't good for anything, and then when they finally added in those pets, I bought a couple of them.
