Character:
Hatthern the Pain Bringer
Location:
Tanaris, Legion Forward Camp
"Ten, hut!" the doom guard bellowed, phlegm flying past his jagged teeth. His long horns curved out of his head like a bulls and flashed in the sun as he oversaw the felguards on the training ground below, the lesser demons with their bluish skin, red angular armour and small heads covered with a helm. A single horn more like a blade protruding from it.
Haathern's large paws were crossed behind his back, breastplate carved with graven effigies and images glaring out at the assembled soldiers of the legion balefully. His cloven hooves clacked on the baked, blackened earth the Legion had created their camp upon as he paced before them.
"
You men call that a square! I call that time to review some basic arithmetic! You!
" he pointed a black nailed finger at a felguard, who straightened his pike and stiffened instantly. "
What's a square!
"
"Sir! It is a four cornered shape where every side is equal. Sir!"
"
Really? Is that a square? Because that's not what I'm seeing. Do you know what I'm seeing?
"
"Sir! y-."
"
That was a rhetorical question maggot! Because all I'm seeing is a blighted! Rectangle! The rest of this demon's horde may be content with mad rushes to the enemy, but I'll be thrice damned if I'm letting such shoddy troops in my forces! Now I'm going to finish this glass,
" he held aloft a glass cup filled with a thin brown liquid. A straw poked out of the side teasingly as several ice cubes clinked in the glass. "
And there damn well better be a four cornered shape of equal proportions on all sides, with ninety degree angles at all four corners when I finish. And if there isn't, then someone's gonna pay! Warning! This is iced tea, and it is both delicious and horribly, horribly hot outside! Now, here we go.
"
The doom guard bit on the straw, sucking fiercely at the refreshing drink as he watched the troops scrambling to desperately form the proper shape.

"
...and by the time I get back, if I order you to pivot, step, pivot, step, pose, I expect you to do it with a smile on your face. And a song in your fel damned hearts!
"
The doomguard shoved his way into the shade of his tent. It was a spartan thing, with furniture comprised of little more than a cot, some trunks piled near a corner filled with personal effects and weapons inside, and a small desk covered with dispatches, orders, and several small notebooks with painfully flowery titles written in huge, crude hand. A large banner was draped on one of the walls with the mark of the legion on it, and several sconces filled the high top of the tent with the burning green smoke which characterized the army of darkness.
Though Hatthern preferred the sparse and military accommodations, he still would have liked a more formidable fortification. But the nature of his campaign kept him on the move, and thus portability was the name of the game.
Hatthern stomped over to the desk. Grabbing a pitcher of additional iced tea, he was about to pour himself another glass when a scroll coiled into existence in a swirl of green flames. He watched with a raised brow as the letter plopped onto the table.
"
Hmph. Orders from command?
" the doomguard mused, looking at the seal. He was in a fairly good mood as he tore open the letter. A rare occurrence, but thanks to the felguards outside at least managing to look like a disciplined force, the doom guard felt some tinglings of happiness in the depths of his blackened heart.
As he read, his face slowly twisted into a look of hatred. "
Grauuuuugh! Anger!
" he roared, crumpling the paper into a fist. "
A tap dancing vamp? Fel blast it back to the depths!
"
Like smoke on the wind his good mood was gone. Grabbing his glass of iced tea, he stormed back out to take out his befouled mood on the beleaguered troops outside.

"
Haaalbreds! Thrust!
" The assembled felguards thrust their axe-like pole arms forth to create a wall of bristling steel. Hatthern grunted, nodding slowly at the display. "
Aaaand...Recover!
" The weapons snapped back up as their wielders fell back to attention.
"
Not bad maggots. Not bad,
" the doomguard observed, casting his eyes across the parade ground. Just before the assembled soldiers could feel he praise, Hatthern snapped out: "
But not fel damned good enough! Four more times! Thrust! Recover! Thrust! Recover!...
" The troops proceeded through the drill mechanically, only able to perform the ordered motion at that point. Precisely what their commander had intended.

"
All right you worms! That's enough disappointing me for one day. Take five,
" Hatthern bellowed. The soldiers relaxed almost instantly. With a slow, exhausted pace the began to make their way back to camp and the rest therein.

OOC: What about Light's Hope Chapel? The light probably would make a better shield than nature would against demons.
