Can of Worms: Paid Transmog sets.

Ok, so here's a possible can of worms, after checking the cash shops of SWTOR and of GW2 I noticed how they have plenty of unique armor skins that you can apply to your gear, skins that are (at least in GW2's case) completely unobtainable in the game.
World of Warcraft also has a cash shop, it sells only pets and mounts, but what would you feel about if blizzard added transmog sets that can only be obtained via the cash shop? would you hate it? would you welcome that change and actually buy them?
I'm talking about 100% statless armor, sorta like the armors you get after you get Gold in all the challenge mode dungeons, just cosmetic armor with a unique look that, just like the mounts and pets offered in the cash shop, can't be obtained in any way on the game.
Same goes for weapons, if they added unique weapon skins for transmog that can't be obtained otherwise, except for the cash shop.
/discuss.
(Personally, I would hate it. Sure, they're optional, but for a lot of players, your own aesthetic is just as important (and sometimes MORE important) than stats. Most armor sets in the game look terrible, and if they suddenly develop a really REALLY good looking armor set, only to slap a real-money price tag on it, that would be almost insulting. This practice could be acceptable for F2P MMOs, because they have to make a profit from somewhere, but for a sub-based game, there is no excuse.)

I wouldn't buy it the same as I don't buy the mounts or pets. I already pay a fee every month to play the game. They should stop wasting money on all these micro transactions, and use the money to make the game better. (New hardware, new designers, new areas, etc)

I'm not all that big on appearances. If it looks neat I'll transmog so no I wouldn't buy gear to do it.

Yeah, I wouldn't put RL money into it. If it was available by maybe turning in JP, then yes, especially if I couldn't get a certain piece to drop while farming.

I guarantee the revenue they make off of the pets and mounts far exceeds what they spend to create a single character model. The money that they make off of these funds the rest of the game- it doesn't detract from it. Adding a single character model to the game for free wouldn't add a whole lot to the overall game value or experience by itself.
Personally, I doubt I'd spend money at blizzard prices (In other games I've played it was like $2-3 for an outfit) for any transmog gear, but I wouldn't mind them selling it either. Most games with cash shops have vanity outfits in them, and IMO anything they want to sell for cash that has no effect on game balance is fine with me.
What I would say is that it should be gear that is unique and not ever obtainable within the game.

I'm not big on paying money outside of the regular costs incurred by playing the game (monthly sub, xfer fees, etc), though I did purchase the cinder kitten pet as the proceeds went toward victims of Sandy. And I proudly show it off wherever I go.
I doubt I would pay for an xmog set, though...I enjoy having a good reason to replay old content.
Edit: the first thing I intend to do once I hit 90 on my warrior is solo MC and BWL...even before I run a single heroic.

I'd be fine with it, so long as the skins were actually worth buying and not obtainable ingame. I wouldn't count on it happening though... there's not as much creativity evident in model design compared to a couple expansions ago.
Funny that some look down on others for spending money on the game...like you're not spending $15 a month and $50 an expansion anyway, lol. Pay to win is one thing, but for purely aesthetic things...I see no issue.

I wouldn't mind paying for new armor types (Transmog sets), but only if the in-game sets don't suffer because of it. The only problem with something like this idea, is the lack of bag space. The only fix would be, is to give us a wardrobe feature, since my bag space is always full.
If i had a choice between new character models, pets or mounts. Think i would still prefer pets & mounts.
I would love to see a Tab feature, for Transmog gear & Tabards, like we have for pets & mounts.
You know you're addicted to WoW when the microwave dings, and you mutter 'grats'.
My Doughnuts Ding on a regular basis. Takes about 12sec's... nom nom nom

And, to be honest, I tend to look down upon those who spend real $$$ on such trivial in-game aesthetics. Especially that ridiculous golden dragon thing they released last year.
I don't understand this. I really don't. So people who have plenty of money, and feel like throwing a few bucks at a pretty mount are idiots? It costs less than dinner does for me, and I'm not exactly poor, either. So I bought the celestial steed... does that make me ridiculous? How? It took less than an hour to earn those money. But it's less ridiculous to farm the same heroic every day for the Raven Lord? Or the same raid, every week, to get Ashes of A'lar? Despite the fact that all that time could
potentially
have been used to earn money instead?

I think that many people forget that time does in fact equal money- that's why they pay people based in increments of time (hourly/weekly/annually). There are plenty of people who play wow for whom $25 is 1-2 hours worth of salary. So for them, the mount is worth about 1-2 hours worth of work. Compare that to someone who is putting in time on a rep grind- farming beads for Talbuks, or working through the Golden Lotus dailies in order to get to the Shado-Pan dailies, to grind to exalted for the
Onyx Cloud Serpent
. One person spent 2 hours acquiring a mount, one probably spent 20-30. I don't think it makes sense to "look down" on someone for buying a mount, especially since it cost them much less in terms of man hours than almost any mount you earn in the game. It's completely fine to not want it, to not think that particular mount is worth the time or money- but in reality, a person spending "real money" is putting a lot less out for a mount than someone who puts in 30 hours worth of work (valued at about $240 even at minimum wage) for a mount.
Basically, if the argument is that someone who spends man-hours earning in-game items is worth looking down on, then the person who is losing a week's salary in opportunity costs (based on time spent) is clearly much more worth looking down on than the person who wastes 2 hours worth of work by spending the salary earned elsewhere on it. If the argument is that it's not a waste if you enjoy earning the rewards, and that the time spent is worth the entertainment value it provides, then it should apply to people regardless of how they spend their time to earn what they want. But time and money are definitely not separate commodities in most cases. It costs a lot more productivity to grind mounts than to buy them, and at the end the reward has the same effect on your enjoyment of the game. Someone who spends their time getting really good at selling real estate is just as entitled to the things that affords them as someone who gets really good at killing raid bosses.

Sounds like a good idea, I wouldn't buy them myself but I don't see any harm in it either. I don't have any problem with players that buy pets and mounts from the cash shop, it's just not how I personally choose to play the game. Ever since I bought my first mount in game at level 40 I have considered obtaining mounts a part of the game and as such stay with what I can get in game.

Considering it took me atleast a month of non stop every day heroic farming for the last 2 pieces of my transmog set....... ugh i look good though and i wouldnt want someone to be able to buy the set for $15 dollars where as i put in time and frustration
Oh I agree. I think that any for-cash items should be unobtainable in the game- I don't think you should be able to pay to bypass normal grinding- like for XP boosts, gear, items that normally require a grind, etc.- but I see nothing wrong with separate items in the cash shop.
