Why have I never been eligible for a Raid?

I'm a casual player who has come and gone a few times and I've often wondered why I've never been eligible for any Raid content . Years ago I was not in a raid focused guild and I'd assumed that to see raids if have needed to work towards that criteria. These days the Raid finder obviously asks for a high average item level. As I level towards level 90 I'm left wondering about content from ages ago. What about the classic raids from when the level cap was 60, or 70 etc. why am I not able to join a group for those old lower level raids? How is it that I am always just below what is required for the current expansion but unable to queue for older stuff. Do the older raids scale up in difficulty each time an expansion is released?
Cheers.

They don't; but no one uses the old Raid finder tool. If you want to run the old content raids, just say in Trade you are looking for a Transmog run and you'll get a lot of people who want to run...or you know, as a level 90, just solo the stuff by yourself.

So the Raid finder tool is listing none eligible because I'm too low for the current stuff and too high for the old stuff? I can't remember ever being eligible for anything.

The original Raid Finder tool was only based on level. LFR is based on an item level, but it's ridiculously easy to hit that minimum now a days.

Sorry, it was the LFR tool that I was referring to. I didn't know there was an older tool. My guild is dispersed and inactive so is LFR still my best bet? And I'm still not clear why its not listing older content (or any current content) as available.

Because the only things in LFR are the current raids and DS.

1. You can now enter old raids solo if you like. You do not need to be in a group.
2. Looking for organized raids for older content (that is too hard to do solo)? Join raids on
http://openraid.us/
. I seriously could not recommend this site any higher. People post raid times and all you have to do is sign up and be online at the appropriate time.
3. Usually buying one or two i476 items off the AH will get you to i460 (if you are close) and into the first raids. I've been winning loot drops way more easily than in Cata, so I haven't really needed to buy Valor items from vendors.

Also, just guessing, but are you level 90 yet?
If you're still leveling, you won't show any raids in LFR since you have to be 90 for the MoP stuff, and can't do DS LFR after 85.
Allowing higher players into LFR for DS would completely trivialize the content, same with LK dungeons and 81.

if you want to do the raids for your level grab some people in trade channel and fly down to them or have a party member summon you. the old content is still there and allot of people do it for transmog but the raid finder is not going to take you there. also if you 90 as someone said above you can just run alot of them yourself because you will be extremly OP for them. the only reason to do them would be transmog for your gear as the gear is not going to be close to as good and the low level dungeon gear you will get at level cap.

I'm level 88 at the moment so still a little way to go. I've never experienced any raid content and each time an expansion comes out and I level a little I wonder if I'll be eligible for something but the only route in I know id LFR as my guild is pretty much absent.
Some folk have mentioned running older content for transmogs. Do you mean simply to find gear that we'd want the look of?

Yes lots of people do this, for older gear and for fun. Have a read around, find a raid you fancy trying (older one) have a bit of a read up on it so you are aware of anything you need to know mechanics wise, then when you're ready just start asking in trade who fancies an "insert raid here" transmog run.
Chances are you'll find a few people, be honest say you've done a bit of reading but not run it before (unlikely to matter or bother anyone) and you'll have a group.
Good chance you'll bump into some people you can run with again in the future, either you organise, or get invited by them.

Besides getting items for transmog people also may run older raids for collectibles (mounts, recipes, etc.) and to get achievements.
