Did people like that grow up wanting to be the outlaw instead of the lawman, the bad guy instead of the good guy? I could never picture myself as a horde. The thought of being one never entered my mind when I first started playing this game.
I play as Horde because zombies aren't allowed in the Alliance. Also, we get Gloves of Unmitigated Badassery and Shovel of Mercy, by far the best items in the game.
How about you guys?

I play Horde because of WC3. Orcs were always my favorite on that game and when I started WoW, it was only natural to play as the Horde.

Orcs have massive muscular physiques and represent a male ideal that i look up to. And troll women are hot.

Because horde is so much more fun than playing alliance where the average age of a player is 12 years old.

Because you don't get enough quests like
this
("Yes, let them burn! Let them burn through the night, so that their flaming tower will light the battlefield beneath us as we rain terror upon their heads.") and
this
as Alliance. You don't get allied NPCs who talk about painting new continents red or about Death to the Living! And you don't get nicely cynical lessons like "
Never trust someone else to lie for you.
"
And trolls.

I play Horde because my friends were Horde when i started playing. That and /moo.
But now that i've been there for a while, i can't see myself ever rolling a (serious) Alliance toon. And not for lack of trying.

i became an horde, cause the faction was awesome in warcraft 3 (especially their campaign and special campaign)
being so long with the horde now, i can hardly image rolling an alliance main toon.

Simple... I'm supposed to stare at that ass for 90 lvls and endgame, and female belves are the only race where I feel comfortable about it.

I think the easiest answer is that I don't necessarily think that the Horde are the bad guys.
@ phycus: Why would you
not
want to play a bad guy? There shold
definitely
be the possibility of playing someone shady or outright evil in the World of Warcraft. As there is. There's just more of those opportunities Horde side than Alliance side.

I don't generally play horde- I find the quests to be much more enjoyable from the ally side. But, I do see the appeal of some of the horde races as character models, so I can see why someone else would.

You're not doing the right quests.
I play horde for plenty of reasons, sadly, many of those reasons have faded with time, leaving me to wonder why am I still there.................... =(
First
and foremost, I started playing horde because of Thrall. After playing Warcraft 3, and reading Lord of the Clans, Thrall was my ultimate favorite character not just in the game, but out of all that blizzard has created. I just couldn't see myself fighting as his enemy.
Sadly, Thrall's gone.
Secondly
, because I can identify with the plight of the horde. They're NOT the bad guys (or at least not when I started playing anyways). They're former villains that have since had major changes in their lives, and are trying now to live in a world that mistrusts and hates them. They fight for their right to live, to exist, but because some people can't laid old grudges to rest, the fight seemingly never ends.
Sadly, after WOTLK, that began to fade out, and now its mostly gone. After gems like the Broken Front, the wrathgate, Gilneas, Southshore, Ashenvale, Stonetalon, Theramoore, Andorhal, and ohhh so many more, it seems blizzard just loves to beat the horde with the villain stick. There's hardly any dislikable figure within the alliance, almost all of them have been removed, and the sad part is, when they're removed, they're no longer figures of the aliance.
The horde however not only still has all their unlikable sorts, they're made EVEN MORE unlikable, and they add newer even worst unlikable sorts each expansion.
Third
I started playing horde because they had the greatest race ever: Blood Elves. Sadly, they're so deep under the rug you would not be blamed if you think they'd left.
So yeah....... =( blizzard keeps giving me more and more reasons to just pick up my marbles and leave.

Poor Rank. If only you had a couple high level characters in a nice Ally guild...oh wait...

I did, thank you. I just preferred to deal with the part where you said 'because people want to play not-necesarrily-bad-guy' rather than where you argue 'people want to play bad guys not because they're bad people' and talk about Jedi.
It's entirely possible I misunderstood you though. Which brings me back to my question: Why would you not want to play a bad guy? Why is there a concept to be rejected? You're the one who brought that concept up in the thread, as far as I can tell.

I think the easiest answer is that I don't necessarily think that the Horde are the bad guys. We might be a bit rough around the edges, but that doesn't make us evil. Yeah Garrosh is kind of an assbag, but I don't think we should be judged based on that. I think the Horde are the underdogs and while people might not want to play the bad guy people certainly want to play the underdog. Regardless of that I also reject the concept that people don't want to play the bad guy. I'm pretty sure when The Old Republic launched the Sith starting zone was by far more crowded than the Jedi starting zone, and to my knowledge there weren't many people that were playing those Sith all bubbly and nice; they were force lightning people to death as often as the possibly can. I don't think that's because people are secretly wanting to be axe murders; it's more people play games in part to do things that they can't do in their everyday life which includes force choking people that piss you off.
Exactly! Just look at Thrall's amazing story. Working with the humans to get free and then bringing his people out of the hole and into the real world. He united the shunned groups of the world (sans the undead, most of them are crazy). We see Lady S. Try and regain some dignity for herself and her people by killing the Lich King. We see the Tauren try to bring peace to their old ways.
I joined the horde because I loved the idea of a race (in my case, the orcs) becoming something better than their past.
