Why not play an Enhancement Shaman then, they play about the same as a ret pally with dual-wield.
Paladins have always used big 2h weapons (preferably maces) and 1h+shield. Not just in WoW, but in pretty much all fantasy games and literature.

It does seem only fair to me to allow people to play the character as they want to.
This is what I hate most about WoW.
Rogue: Woah! Healers get to heal? I want to heal too!
Blizzard: You got it!
Yeah. You don't want to play ret paladin, play something else. Don't ask blizzard to wreck the class for everybody else.

And then we get symbiosis that allows Warlocks and Mages to heal.
Yep, OP is the exact type of people that Blizzard is catering to. Why don't we also give them a fourth spec that allows Holy Caster DPS? Or Holy Tank? Or Retribution Tank?
Note: I find it hillarious that you misspelled Retri with "Retro". Retro Paladins most certainly wouldn't be dual wielding.

Retro Paladins also refreshed seals after EVERY judgement.
Those were the days...

Well, Retro Paladins wouldn't even be HORDE, so I guess a lot have changed... probably for the better :P

Oi!
I remember doing seal refreshes after judgements on a blood elf paladin I started in BC - with the statements so far, retro pallies could be horde ;)

Really retro paladins would be standing in the background buffing Blessing of Kings on every player every 5 minutes and staying out of combat resurrecting dead players in MC and BWL.

why don't you just play Dk then.. worst idea ever, why don't you give my paladin stealth?
You know, this one time, at paladin camp...

How exactly would paladins getting dual wield wreck the class for those that don't want it? The only thing it would do is give you more options, if you don't like to dual wield you can choose to ignore it.
That being said, I personally don't think DW would fit the paladin class. They're more methodical, they don't just hack away as fast as they can. They take their time and be as precise as they can.

I'm assuming that the thought is that it would wreck the class because of the inevitable highwire act it is balancing a dps spec that can either DW or 2h, just look at DK's - and being able to do something and thereby "doing it wrong" is something that most people would prefer not be an option, as would blizzard / the dev team, as I interpret the comments they have made on talents and abilities over the past while - they want to remove the "traps" that you need to go to a 3rd party site and/or understand mechanics on a totally different (EVE-like) level to avoid.

Ret pally balance is on a knife's edge as it is, between sustaining dps and unbelievable burst damage. Having to balance all that with dual wield thrown into the mix would inevitably lead to constant buffing and nerfing. It would also skew the amount of people wanting 1h weapons compared to 2h weapons even more than it is now. Just leave it as it is.

Tbh dual wield Paladin will just be wrong even on lore wise...
But i would really like to see / have a valid option to have a Retribution Spec that use MH+Shield not just a 2 hand weapon.

Because Blizzard cares about their Lore. /Sarcasm
And I'm not so sure Shield Rets would be a good idea. They would end up making them a lot weaker than 2-hand Ret to make up for the added survivability, or just plain stronger thanks to the shield, if they (For whatever reason) decided to give them equal damage. If the second ended up happening, can you guess what all PvP Rets will be using?
